D304 Cobb with back damage on ebay -- back damage not shown
Just a headsup for anyone who's interested in this card. Great front which belies the SGC 20 grade. Back has damage which is conveniently not shown in the ebay listing. Card sold for $6500 in Heritage this month; now on ebay (without that pesky back paper loss) for $12,500.

Jeff - this is actually appears to be mandlcards' business model. See here where we discussed a different card they listed with a pristine front and a tear on the back and didn't include a back scan. I was remiss not to include the seller's eBay name in that thread, but it's here now for future reference.

Matt,
Thx for the refresher. At least this one hasn't been reslabbed yet. ;) Jeff |
Matt, great catch! I actually sent this lowlife an ebay question yesterday about the back of the card...not surprisingly it was ignored.
|
Too funny. The seller just sent me a link to the damaged back of the card -- but didn't put the pic up or note my question on the listing. Pitiful.
|
If the guy sends a scan on request, I think you are being a bit harsh on him -- anyone knows from the grade it has a problem and can find out by asking.
|
I wonder if buying a card at auction then immediately listing the card for double on eBay ever worked.
|
I don't agree. If you post an expensive card like that on ebay with a clean front and don't post a picture of the back or even mention that the back has significant damage -- that's bad news. Why else would the seller not post a scan of the back but to mislead the potential buyer? He bought the card days ago and now wants to flip it for twice the price. He can do that, possibly, as long as he doesn't show the damaged back.
In addition: if he was honest, why not post my question on his listing? Clearly he wants this info about the back to not affect potential buyers. |
The guy has no back scans on his numerous listings, just his MO. Fairly typical for ebay.
|
Jeff nobody who would spend 12K for that card is not going to understand there is probably an issue with the back.

Also, it could be a 20 due to a stray pencil mark on the back. |
So freaking ASK the guy for a scan, geez. And if he won't provide one, don't bid. How hard is this?

Right, and where the buyer can easily protect himself, and the seller's MO is just not to provide back scans in the listing, I don't see any ethical problem. Maybe he isn't the best ebay seller in the world, but I hardly think it rises to the level of an ethical issue.
|
Seriously, all the scumbag card doctors out there and all their enablers, and we are going to blast some dude whose practice is not to list back scans even on his mint cards, when he promptly provides a scan on request?
|
Lol

Most likely an oversight at least not mentioning the back damage in the description. Also probably switched the Paige in the previous thread to BCCG because he liked the holder better.
|
Yeah, that's the ticket! :)

If I sell a $50 card I provide a scan of both the front and back. To not include a back scan on a 12.5K card (really a 6.5K card that magically doubled overnight), especially one with back damage, is clearly no accident.

Matt, Give me a couple of days. It's a particularly virulent strain of cynicism. Jeff |
Guys, the seller just wrote to me that he really only wants about half of the $12,500 asking price and that I "must have been born yesterday" to think otherwise. So...he bought the card for the same price he wants to sell it for...and it's just a coincidence that he put it on ebay for double that price -- and without the back damage. Sounds like a great selling strategy. Here's another:
1. Collect underpants 2. ..... 3. Profits |

The same seller is also selling the 1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson SGC Auth for $20,000.
I believe that card sold for around $9,500 a few weeks ago in Heritage. Tony |
