Legendary Photo Winnings...

Anyone else meshugana enough to bid and win any of their questionable photos?

I've been collecting the work of Malcolm Emmons for several years now and have about 90 Emmons TYPE 1 Photographs in my collection. But a Mickey Mantle example has eluded me, until now...

with the controversy around legendary's photos, I still feel comfortable and am proud about these pick-ups. I look forward to framing them and hanging them next to others in my 'man cave!'

Nice acquisition, Jimmy... no doubt about that one. A sure Malcolm Emmons original, and a terrific late-career image of the Mick. Poignant shot as well...

I won one lot, but it wasn't a photo. I thought long and hard about 7-8 of the photos, but couldn't pull the trigger on any (given the vague descriptions). I felt comfortable with a couple that were identified as Paul Thompson and Charles Conlon originals, but I could still see no remnants of any stamps on the backs.

Plus, those that I was considering all went for close to $1,000, so the decision to pass on them was easy. I also loved the Cubs Team photo (posing with Team Mascot) that sold for $375. But it had a missing corner, and there was no way to tell if it was original or a re-strike. That one probably tempted me the most..

Hell Mark. Don't hold out on us... what did you win?

I bought this group of 15 photos, described only as "Cleveland Stadium Photo Collection."

When I saw the title, I assumed it meant Cleveland "Stadium," as in the 80,000-plus-capacity structure. Turns out, it's a Cleveland "stadium" collection, because one of the photos (below) is of League Park.

It looks to me like most, if not all, of the photos are original to the period when they were shot. Even if they aren't, at $8 a photo I figured the group was worth a bid.

That was a great buy, Rob... very nice! They also had a Crosley Field grouping that I probably should have gone after (it went cheap with only 2 bids...)

Here's what I did get... I really love the Jackie Robison Pinback in partiucular, with the "Our Bums" monicker. Have to believe that ribbon is somewhat rare, as I can't recall seeing another...

great wins, fellows!!
i'm mighty happy about picking up 3: two g. burke's "medwick" and 'planeta'--
and van oeyen's bob clark. i was particularly pleased to see that the medwick matched up with the 1936 S&S---almost as pleased as i was when my conlon paskert matched up with the T3 and the conlon L. tannehill matched up with the T206.
great fun. all will be on the office walls.
best,
barry
they'll go beautifully next to my 4 conlon's and 1 thompson.
