Bat signed by Maris and Mantle, how much would it be worth?
I am friends with a retired MLB player who played in the 1960's and was a long time MLB coach. He has a baseball bat that is signed by both Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. He called me asking what I think it would be worth and what would be the best venue for him to sell it.
I'm looking for suggestions from the group on here. Let me know your insights. Thanks. |
There was a limited edition signing done with the pair in the early 80's and those bats, which are basically certified, sell for around $6,000.
You would need documentation from an authenticator (JSA or PSA/DNA) to get anything even close to that as the market is flooded with bogus Maris/Mantle memorabilia. Or Consign it to an auction house (Robert Edward, Legendary, etc.). Hope this helps. DanC |
Since your friend is a former player and coach, there is a chance that this is a game used bat belonging to Mantle or Maris. That would greatly enhance the value. is there a chance you can post any photos?

It sounds like a piece with potential to be worth $10,000 or more if the signatures are genuine and in strong condition--collectors almost always pay a premium for "vintage" autographs, and a bat signed by Mantle and Maris during the "M&M Boys" days would be highly desirable. And, as someone noted, if it is a game used bat from a major star, the value could be even higher. Heritage is happy to provide free auction estimates at our website, https://sports.ha.com/common/acquisi...Consign-071107, or you can email me directly with images of the bat. Heritage will also acquire the necessary authentication paperwork from both PSA/DNA and James Spence on your behalf, should you decide to consign to a Heritage auction.

For the benefit of metrotheme, and I suppose Heritage, I'll testify as an independent party that that Heritage is a reputable auction house and handles valuable sports memorabilia including autographs.

Thanks for the help. I am going to send the information his way and let him do what he can with it. I'm not sure if he's good with a digital camera.
