A, AA, AAA and other minor Leagues.....it's all FUN!!

We haven't had a good ole "show me" thread lately so here is one. ..This is a series that seems to be more scarce than I would have thought. As a matter of fact I have seen exactly 1 of these for sale. I am sure there are more out there but I have never seen any. Show a minor league card or two..

Here's a card produced by Knowles Service Station in 1952. I don't anything about these except the players depicted are from the Stockton Ports ...

Not Pre-War but kind of cool.
1951 Hartford Chiefs. Team Issue I imagine. I've never seen any other examples, other then the grouping I have. http://site.pugilistica.com/Baseball...09Sept04A2.JPG http://site.pugilistica.com/Baseball...09Sept04A1.JPG |
PCL: 1911 Obaks
I have a few Obaks. I love the crazy backgrounds. Maggert looks like he's playing in a fire, and I don't know where Metzger's playing.

Chris: Your Mann card is one of many produced by Globe Printing Co in San Jose, CA. They produced several minor league sets. Look under Globe Printing in the SCD and it will show a list of sets they produced. Many are very hard to find such as Jamestownm Miami Beach, Ft. Worth etc while Soo City seem to be available from time to time. Apparently their shop flooded and destroyed a lot of their products thus a factor in their scarcity I assume.

I'm all about the minors !
Especially the obscure stories that go with it. Here is a quote from the 1911 Asheville Gazette: "“Sharp, that erstwhile Eastern Carolina Leaguer, whose smiling face appears on “Old Mill” cigarette pictures, sapped all the ginger from the Knoxville ball tossers at Riverside Park yesterday afternoon when in the eighth inning, with Landgraff on second and the score tied, he smashed the pill over the left field fence for a home run.” Here is that smiling face on the Old Mill card when he played for Goldsboro: Attachment 27713 |
Here are a few you don't see everyday...
1906 Memphis oversized PC: http://starsofthediamond.com/06pcliebhardt.JPG 1913 Oakland Oaks Issue (thought to have been produced by the Cardinet Candy Co. who would produce the Texas Tommy cards the next year--they were a California company)... http://www.starsofthediamond.com/13oaksolmstead.JPG http://www.starsofthediamond.com/13oaksgregory.JPG 1921 Frederick Fotos, amongst others is Hick Cady with the Joplin, MO team (don't remember ever seeing another card of a Joplin player in any set...ever!) http://www.starsofthediamond.com/frederickfotocady.JPG http://www.starsofthediamond.com/frederickfotoagnew.JPG http://www.starsofthediamond.com/frederickfotokamm.JPG |

Neat thread idea! Alot of cards I've never seen before! Thanks to all who posted some great images.

Thanks Clayton
I acquired that 1904 Buffalo Bisons team in Cooperstown back in 1994. Believe it or not....it was a walk-in at the annual HOF weekend show. I traded T206's for it. Regards, TED Z |

Talk about MINOR leagues...the guys pictured in the set were Vancouver city champions in 1921 and 1922. Not an issue you see often.

Frank Shaughnessy
A Notre Dame graduate, Frank played in only nine Major League games, yet he had very successful careers in Baseball, Football and Hockey.
