How Rare Are Texas Tommys?
As we look back on on our 35th anniversary in collecting, it becomes clear that as a type Texas Tommys are in the ultra-rare category. We have only owned three, including the Copeland Joe Jackson, (all of which we deeply regret selling or trading.)
Except for an occasional low grade example in a Lifson or Legandary auction, we have only seen 10 examples for public sale in the past eight years. Last year Forbes Magazine listed the Texas Tommy cards of Wagner, Jackson and Cobb to be among the 10 most valuable cards in the hobby. Does anyone know if the Cobb and Wagner are in the collection of a private, active collector. What has been your experience in pursuing this is ultra rare issue? Look forward to your comments Bruce Dorskind America's Toughest Want List bdorskind@dorskindgroup.com |
a few sets out there
There is at least 1 full set of type 1's out there, after that collector got an uncatalogued one I used to own. The type 1 E224s are very tough....the type 2's are about 5x-10x as scarce, from my experience.
and btw, great cards but I have to disagree, from a financial sense with this statement- "Last year Forbes Magazine listed the Texas Tommy cards of Wagner, Jackson and Cobb to be among the 10 most valuable cards in the hobby" |

I've got one common of each type and am happy to stop there. Certainly in the ultra-rare category. As with N172, damage to the blank back of the Type 2s kills the grade, but who cares? |
Does anyone know where the Jackson is?

Type 1's
Has anyone here actually seen either the Wagner of Cobb Type 1 in person?
How many of each are there, and what condition are they in? Tony |

This one kind of fell into my lap when Jeff L. e-mailed me that it was for sale on baseballrarities.com. Kevin, who's always great to work with, and I reached a deal a few hours later. That was a nice surprise that day.
