Slightly OT: Price check on some '81-'82 & '50s-60s cards
Sorry for the slightly off topic post, but I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to check prices on the following cards in the latest Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards? I am working a trade and there is some question as to the accuracy of the prices for the '81s and '82s.
1981 Donruss (all NM): #119 Henderson #371 Rose 1982 Topps (all NM): #90 Ryan #100 Schmidt #161 Ldrs #162 Ldrs #166 Ldrs #167 Ldrs #435 Yount #610 Henderson If someone is willing, I'd be interested in knowing the prices on the following from the latest Std Catalog as well as a recent Beckett magazine as this is what I am supposed to be sending in exchange for the above. 1964 Topps: #17 EX #34 VG+ #40 EX #228 VG 1960 Topps: #473 VG/EX 1957 Topps: #139 VG #142 VG 1959 Topps: #55 EM #109 EX #133 EX #336 EX #373 EX #398 EX Thanks in advance for your help! honestly none of the cards from the 1980's are worth more than $1-3 bucks, can get them all on ebay for under a dollar.

I would not make that trade unless I just loved the 80's cards and could care less about value, imo the 80's card dont even add up to $5

Thanks
Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I just got worn down on this trade and caved in on Friday to finish it out. It's been going on a long time, but I wasn't trying to be a jerk... just had some differences on values.
The main issue is that I use the Standard Catalog for getting values for modern, Post WWII vintage, and Pre-war vintage cards. So many other traders use monthly Beckett's for everything though. I figured out a long time ago that paying $10/month for Beckett (I guess it's cheaper if you have a subscription though) is not worth it since the bulk of the prices listed are for 1990's and 2000's sets which I don't have much interest in. They cut out more than half the players/cards from the other years so they can put all those insert and parallel sets in there. I think the yearly Std Catalog is plenty accurate for my needs. Unfortunately, Beckett has some values that are...let's say... overly optimistic? For example, Beckett had $6 for the '81 Donruss Rickey Henderson whereas the Std Catalog I had showed it at $2. Anyways... I'm OK with the trade since it helps me complete a set that I'm working on. I guess in the future though I'm going to have to be tougher and just state no vintage-for-modern trades. The valuation always seems to be in question and I usually end up trading away vintage because I'm one of the few folks that still wants to build (rather than outright buy) all those '80s sets that I knew as a kid. Thanks again for the advice! |
