Brooks conrad rookie cards

Wonder what these are going for these days? I have been watching sports for 35 years, and i have never seen anything more painful than watching this guy. I have also never seen a bigger extended meltdown, and this is why bobby cox is truly too good of a guy to stay with a player this long.

k-dog 10-10-2010 06:30 PM

He had some huge pinch-hits during the regular season, but he has been a total nightmare on defense.

HRBAKER 10-10-2010 06:31 PM

Brooks

There is usually a good reason someone is a 30 year old minor leaguer. No excuses, watching him butcher this game was nauseating but the absence of Billy Wagner was key as well.

This team has been getting it done with bubble gum and duct tape all year. I love the Braves but this is no playoff team. They can't hit, they are mediocre afield and they can pitch on most days. When you get to the playoffs you are going against the best everyday, they have officially turned back into a pumpkin. Congrats Bobby Cox on probably your best managing job ever.

Here's one he picked up:

Would love oppinions. Has anyone seen a bigger tragedy in multiple scenarios in sports than this? This makes bill buckner look like babe ruth.

barrysloate 10-10-2010 06:32 PM

Conrad had a wicked bad game, but since I am a Giants' fan I tip my hat to him. That was a great game.

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 06:34 PM

Barry- don't get too excited. You guys will be down and out in four the next series.

barrysloate 10-10-2010 06:38 PM

I know- the Giants always find a way to lose. I still can't figure out how they lost the Series in 2002.:(

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 06:40 PM

Barry- you are right, that was brutal. Not as brutal as watching bobby cox stick with conrad. I believe chief noc-a-homa could play better defense. Jeff is right, might be bobby's best managerial effort with so many things going against them.

I'm not a giants hater, but I'm glad Bonds never won a series, maybe it was bad karma.

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 06:47 PM

Jeff- what would you take for that autographed conrad card? Don't tell me you want to ebay it to get maximum price.

joeadcock 10-10-2010 07:05 PM

Can somebody fill me in.

Just got home, out since early this morning. All I know is that my team, the Braves lost. What happened with Conrad?

Frank

tbob 10-10-2010 07:07 PM

Yeah, a real shame that former Arkansas Razorback Eric Hinske wasn't the hero after his 2 run shot that put the Braves ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th. Oh well, I still have former Hog Cliff Lee going in the 5th game for the Rangers :D

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 07:08 PM

Frank- happy to clue you in. 3 more errors, all of which were easy plays. He even dropped a pop fly. As an atlanta fan, this was as brutal as it gets. I have never seen anything like it in sports, yet bobby stays with him.

In a nutshell:

Brooks Conrad went 0-for-3 and committed three errors, the last of which gave the Giants the lead in the ninth, Sunday in the Game 3 loss.
Conrad has made four errors at second base in three games, and he's just 1-for-10 in the series. He popped up a sac bunt bid in his final at-bat today, and the last error was truly embarrassing, as the ball went right between his legs.

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 07:10 PM

Bob- good point. By the way, where in the hell is troy glaus??? This guy carried the braves for 2 months. Why would they not play him over conrad???????

That closer for the Diamondbacks, Byung-Young Kim (sp?), had in my opinion, a worse meltdown in the World Series, but luckily, his teammates bailed him out.

CMIZ5290 10-10-2010 07:26 PM

Gary- good case, but i have to argue whole heartedly. Conrad has been making these errors for the last 2 weeks. It almost cost them even having a chance to make post season. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure this guy is a good person, but it has gotten to where this is between his ears, not his ability. why don't they play troy glaus?????????????

tolstoi 10-10-2010 11:16 PM

Go giants!

At least the Bay can have something to cheer about.

Rickyy 10-11-2010 01:15 AM

I'm not going to say anything until either team clinches! No Jinxes!:D

barrysloate 10-11-2010 04:42 AM

Quan- SF Giants fan, indeed. A thankless task! Been a fan since 1962. Total championships: 0

jimm 10-11-2010 09:16 AM

Still breathin' this morning though, unlike the Dodgers :D

mitch wild thing williams.

nolemmings 10-11-2010 04:57 PM

1966 World Series, Game 2. Fifth inning of scoreless game--with a man on first Willie Davis drops two consecutive fly balls in CF and throws wild to third base after the second one. Three errors in one inning leads to three unearned against Koufax. Oh, and he was 0-4 at the plate with 2 Ks. My father's face turned all of the colors of the rainbow, as well as several more.

CMIZ5290 10-11-2010 05:03 PM

What alot of people don't realize, except die hard braves fans, is that conrad has been making these type errors for the last two weeks. Costly, costly errors. I still don't understand why troy glaus has not been playing. He started his career at third base, and omar infante is better at second base.

HRBAKER 10-11-2010 05:15 PM

It started when he had to be plugged in @ 3B when Prado went out with the ttorn oblique. I believe that he made errors in the last three regular season games and now has carried over to the postseason @ 2B. It is in his head now. Reminds me of the Pedro Guerrero quote when they asked him what he was thinking during a particular game and he said, "Please Lord, don't let them hit it to me, ........or to Steve Sax either."

rnisly 10-11-2010 07:25 PM

conrad cards

25 of them sold for two dollars

That's about eight cents a piece and that's chrome.

Meltdown

Rick ankiel had one he'll of a meltdown for the cards. Ironically is conrad's teammate now.

joeadcock 10-11-2010 08:35 PM

Sorry Bobby Cox wasn't able to get into the Series on his last year.

Frank,

That would have made a great story but that is no World Series team he had. Again, basic wizardry in my opinion to get them there. We are going to miss Bobby here in Atlanta. Maybe in addition to a new manager they can go out and get some hitters as well.

B O'Brien 10-11-2010 09:12 PM

Brooks SUCKS.
Sad evening in the ATL. I sure hope Brooks didn't buy property here in town. I think that most of knew that defense would be an issue in the playoffs, but come on.

Anyone own a nice Bobby Cox RC to post?

Thanks,
Bob

jimm 10-11-2010 10:32 PM

Nice seeing both team applaud Bobby, well done sir. That being said GO GIANTS.

Rickyy 10-12-2010 12:02 AM

Sad to see Bobby Cox retire...he had a great career. Looking forward to my Giants vs Phils...its gonna be tough against the Phils, but you gotta play to find out... :)

barrysloate 10-12-2010 04:49 AM

Phillies of course go in as the favorites, but the Giants pitching staff is phenomenal...you never know.

ethicsprof 10-12-2010 02:18 PM

BC

i'm with Frank; i wish Bobby C. could have gone out with a bigger bang but as jeff says, the team has to better than what was offered.
Does make me miss my old days of living in Atlanta and eating at the Varsity.

best,
barry

HRBAKER 10-12-2010 03:18 PM
