1930 Blue Ribbon Malt Cubs poster
1 Attachment(s)
This poster arrived in the mail today. I picked it up off eBay for about $20. I posted it here, and not on the memorabilia forum, because I'm pretty certain I've seen "cards" cut from one of these. Although I've never seen one in person, I'm presuming it's real because of its condition and the fact that someone wrote on it with fountain pen.
For me, the biggest dilemma I have about it is whether to cut it apart. I know some of you will be horrified by the thought, but amazingly, the three "cards" in the best shape are Hornsby, Hartnett and Cuyler. I may also just frame it, warts and all. Regardless, any information anybody can offer me about it is appreciated ... |
my 2 cents
My 2 cents,
I would buy a very, very large toploader, for maybe $20-$25?, and put the whole thing in it. That's just me though. I don't think I have ever cut anything up (yet). I might someday but have never had the nerve to so far. I doubt the sum of the cut out players would be worth more than the whole thing together, at least they wouldn't to me. I could see someone valuing the "cards" more though, given what I have seen with graded strip cards (ugh).... :( |
Chris, leave it as it is. It has always bugged the crap out of me that these are listed as individuals in the book. I have never really seen them sell when they are offered in that way as they are essentially worthless pieces of a poster at that point. If there was an indication on the poster to cut them, there were dotted lines on which to cut, or at the very least the pictures were even uniform in size then one might be able to make an argument for cutting them, but that is not the case here. These should not be considered "cards" or anything like that when cut.

Please don`t cut it up!
I would leave it alone once you cut it you can never "uncut" it. Another reason not to not cut it up you have the whole "set" just the way it is! If it were mine I would frame it and just enjoy it for what it is.Nice piece and for $20.00 a nice price too.Congrats!

Me Too
I can't think of one good reason to cut it up.

In my opinion, nothing displays better than a framed advertising piece like that. I wouldn't cut it. Nice find for 20$.

Nice buy... NO do not cut it up!! The similar cards you see are cards issued from Blue Ribbon Malt. They are different stock. These posters were made to displayed as is.
Have fun, albert |
Chris
You got a good deal, I paid over $65 for a similar one off Ebay about 3 years ago. I have not cut it up and wouldn't. I think Leon's idea is a good one(if such a thing is readily available). I was going to frame it, though I haven't yet. Frank |
I might cut it. It all boils down to how you would enjoy it more. I would not probably display the larger piece but might enjoy seeing the "cards." AT $20, and given the it has minor other issues, I would make the enjoyment and the ways you might it more be the determining factor.

I definitely wouldn't cut it! It's a much cooler piece if you leave it together, helps to put it in historical context.
