Neal Arlett - related to Buzz? And why did this young "Hit machine" stop playing organized baseball at the age of 21?

I found an article from March 1941 indicating his team was expecting him to sign for that season. I'd guess he got drafted, and speculation could run from injury to career change afterwards.

You might be right...the timing is pretty much exact for the beginning of the draft.
