How can this card be a PSA 8?

Came across this eBay auction ($350 Buy It Now) for a 1964 Curt Flood #103. Card is in a PSA 8 holder, but 3 of 4 corners in the supersize scan appear to have weak corners (EX at best) with some starting to show some rounding.

Am I missing something? What is going on here? I've never seen a PSA 8 with corners like this...

Thx.

Something's fishy...

They must have made a typo on the grade or something. The holder doesn't look like it's been messed with and the cert # shows that card as a PSA 8, but it's one of the worst looking PSA 8s I've seen.

Maybe I am naive for thinking that maybe it's their scanner? I have noticed a BUNCH of sundiego's cards in holders higher than I think they should be. Check out the rest of their listings to see what I mean...

Got a card from them last Spring...

a 1953 Topps Eddie Mathews PSA 6, and it arrived with heavily frosted PSA slab, with the card being, at best a 3.5

business travel and a vacation prevented me from having time to deal with it in a timely manner...:(

tread carefully with them

Could be good friends with a grader, would be a great way to moonlight.

I don't recall who I bought it from, but I had a PSA 8 1954 Topps Hank Aaron that was chipped all across the colored top border and the corners looked worse than that Curt Flood card. If the graders are going to have off days like that, I wish the would do it when I submit something.

Hmm.......

My observation in regards to the seller is that most of the cards they sell are very weak based on the grade the card has been given. I dont know the relationship between the seller and PSA, but I wont bid on anything they sell.

Perfect example... Buy the Card, Not the holder!

The Eddie Mathews card sounds like one of the ones where they cracked the holder and put in fake cards scam that has been going on for 5+ years.
Commonly sold on craigslist and ebay, usually out of the San Jose area.
They have about 10-15 different cards they do it with.

If you are unfamiliar, they submit real cards for grading then bust them out and insert fakes. then they re-submit the cards for grading and keep the circle going!

They got a Jim Brown rookie up now that is one of the UGLIEST PSA 8's I have ever seen.....

Ahhhh, good 'ol grading companies.

Exhibitman 10-03-2010 05:30 PM

It is an 8 because the nattering nabobs of grading at PSA say it is...

I think they might be targeting the guy who buys every '64 Flood that hits Ebay (madcardbuyer). Someone needs to explain to this misguided soul that you can't corner the market on a '64 Topps card.

switcheroo on the card for sure.

or, if your a big enough submitter you get gift grades for lots of business. Also very common with PSA.
