1954 Yankee Replica Team Ball
4 Attachment(s)
I was recently at a garage sale and picked up this baseball for $20. It is dated July 24, 1954 and appears to be a replica team signed by from the Yankees. All the research I have done leads me to this conclusion (Whitey Ford is signed as Ed Ford, Yogi Berra is signed as Larry Berra, the Mantle sig is stuck way down in one corner -- all the signatures are in the same ink), but I was wondering if anyone looking at the photos could give me their opinion. Thanks.

The "signatures" on the ball are defnitely facsimile.

We get inquiries about these stamped balls all the time at Heritage. I always tell people the same thing (often they call on the phone and just describe the ball). The stamped balls have two things in common. The signatures are placed east to west at the top and the bottom of the two "figure 8" shaped pieces of leather that make up the ball, and then north and south in between (except for the sweet spot) and, if you were to remove all of the "signatures" from the ball, it would be blank. You basically never seen hand signed baseballs without some form of manufacturer's stamping.
