I'm very happy to have won two out of three as the bidding for high grade photos was very spirited to say the least!

Jimmy,
I guess that Gehrig's alright. If you're into that sort of thing. Which I am. VERY nice. Graig |

Vandy 1st no-hitter Type 1

Here's my big win. An awesome Type I photo of Vandy's high leg kick motion immediately after his 1st of his two consecutive no-hitters in 1938. Even though I have seen this shot before, the clarity of this one is awesome!!:)

Beauties all and congrats!

Wow...nice pickups guys. Always like the Vandy high leg kick and both Gehrigs are out of this world...Ben, that was a costly one but well worth it. Looks like you may have been bidding against a familiar opponent!
|
Ben, you beat me out on that Gehrig 26 Bain photo. I wasnt the direct underbidder but I was going for it for a while. It is a REAL BEAUTY! Maybe the best Gehrig I have ever seen! Congrats!

Struck out across the board, Jimmy - too rich for me!
Great pickups - glad you got what you wanted. Those 2 Gehrigs are beautiful. |
Type 1, 2 or 37. Henry has some jaw dropping images. Great pickup boys.
|
Rhys,
Thank you...I was actually expecting to pay much more than I did. I am surprised there were not more bids above 1k. Maybe there were but sniped didn't take as it went from 500-2500 right at the end with two bids. In any case, I am happy to win it and I agree with you(maybe the nicest image I have ever seen of Gehrig-haunting). Very honored to have it in my collection. It goes perfectly with my Ruth.:) Ben Quote:

Yee Old Winnings
We were a disappointing 1 for 9. albeit we were the under-bidder on 4 of the 8 lots we lost
Learning more about photos and their value. We will allocate 15% of our 2011 collecting budget to photos- with a focus on Pre_WWI In the interim we were pleased to be the high bidder on the Monty Stration photo 1930?s Original Photo MONTY STRATTON by CHARLES CONLON Bruce Dorskind America's Toughest Want List bdorskind@dorskindgroup.com |
Lots of people think the archives coming up for sale will devalue original SPorts photographs. I comepletely disagree. Before 2000 original photos were so hard to find that only a few people collected them. WIth the availability in the last decade of the newspapers and photo archives making their photos available to the public, new collectors have the opportunity to buy these rare items and I think the market for these with be strong no matter how many photos hit the market. Just My Opinion.

My favorite was the Babe Ruth Boston photo labeled as 1910's but I believe it is actually from 1914 his Rookie season. I think that someone got a very good deal at $2,700+ as I could not afford to go above $2K after all of my spending recently at the National, etc.
Also liked the 1953 Kaline but fell short on that one also. Congrats to all the winners! |
I won the photo with Alexander in the House of David uniform. Won it for a fraction of what my snipe was set for, too. He had some great ones. Glad to see board members snatching them up. Pretty good bargains on a lot of them, I thought.

wow..crazy stuff. Looks like photos are a really hot part of the hobby now.
|
Like a few other comments, great photos as usual from Henry's auctions...no winnings for me this time around. Maybe next time.
|

i got the Feller Ruffing All star for just over 60 and the 1936 team giants the same....late bids...
i thought both went for a good price |
I've already seen prices drop w/ all these photos flooding the market.
