1874 Harvard Baseball Roster Needed.
Does anyone have a baseball Roster for Harvard U. from 1874? I have an 1873 and need to know who played on the 1874 team. A list from a scorecard or a book or anything would be very helpful.

Awesome guys thanks! I grew up in Maine but never picked up the accent. Nothing like hearing a native New Englander say something like "The grass on the Harvard Yard is hard"
I picked up one of those huge photo albums with the entire class of 1874 on individual cabinets and each person is identified. I have the entire 1874 Varsity Football team accounted for but I wanted to find out who the Baseball players were. You guys are great! Rhys |
Any chance you guys have the 1871 and 1872 Rosters? I have 1873 and now 1874 thanks to you guys but if you have the other two years it would be very much appreciated.

1871: Eustis, Tyler, White, Wells, Austin, Reynolds, Bush (capt), Goodwin, Barnes, Annan, Reed, Allen.
1872: Eustis, Hodges, Tyler, White, Goodwin, Reed, Estabrooks, Chislom, Kent. These may not be complete. |
Thanks Barry

Rhys, any team pictures of the Harvard baseball or football teams which you will have available?
Thanks, Scott |
All the information posted on this thread is from the H Book of Harvard Athletics, published in 1922. There's a photo for nearly every year...but not 1872.

Staying with the 19c collegiate baseball topic, I would really appreciate if anyone could post images of Yale nines from 1877 to 1879.

I have individual cabinet photos, but not the team photos unfortunately.
I have tried to buy the Harvard H book a couple of times but always lost out. I guess I will need to make sure I pick one up now. Rhys |
That's tougher. Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth all published books which detailed the athletic histories of their teams with pictures and text. Yale, I believe, did not.

Barry, there's a book called A history of Yale athletics, 1840-1888 by Richard Hurd, but not as illustrated as the 'H' book.
I'm trying to ID the players pictured in this cabinet. I'm leaning towards 1878 or 1879. http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4280/yalea.jpg Sorry for the crappy pic, but the albumen print size is 16.25 x 12.5 inches... too big for my scanner. Photograph is by William Notman |
Thanks Jimmy. I wasn't familiar with that title.
