He said it is the same set, yep. He mentioned having swapped out the Matty Black cap Carolina Brights though since originally listing it.

It is an intriguing proposition...but it I bought it, what would I collect? Really, with minimal work you could have a presentable set.

Trae - is the guy you are selling for Steve Fields? FYI, He was called out several years ago on the forum for selling reprints as authentic cards.

I searched around first but didn't turn up anything, but now that you mention it I searched again and realized I've overlooked an Archive post from the old board where this took place.

I'd like to keep my reputation clean so I am definitely not going to involve myself in any referrals to this gentleman.

Fwiw, I looked at scans of the set and I think it is legit, but I am not sure the value/asking price balances very well considering the $17 K outlay...There are a lot of $10-15 cards and very few 200+ cards...It seemed ok, though i did not see scans of the SLgers...what scared me off most was that when I really looked at it it seemed to be a fair price, but not a great one considering the outlay and I am enjoying the journey (about 35% of the way there). I prefer to overpay for my t206s one at a time, not in bulk :)... not saying it is overpriced, just that it seems to be to be priced at about what you would expect to pay with some shopping individually.
