1936 E-Unc. Candy Cards
Shouldnt these be really "R-Unc." rather than "E-Unc."
I just picked this one up. I know some of you have them in your type collection, but are any of you actually trying for a set of these rare cards? Also what stamps are on back of your cards if they have them? short list... "Home Run Candy Bar Free" "Coupon #4" http://centuryoldcards.com/images/1936euncgill.jpg PS. they are NOT the center portion of a tan back S&S game card, the top border on these is far too wide. |
for me...
I have them classified as W-Unc since they were cut out. If we say they are in fact candy cards then R-Unc would be more appropriate than E-Unc, since they would be "recent candy". I have never heard of anyone going for a set of them. I have never seen any other stamps on back except the 2 mentioned, as seen here. Neat type cards....
Very recently I did measure them up against the regular S and S cards and they are only about 1/16" of an inch wider, from what I remember.....but it is a very distinct 1/16". The width of the regular game cards would definitely not vary, as opposed to many other pre-war cards. http://luckeycards.com/pwuncx5.jpg |

Here's my contribution. I believe the pictures on these cards are taller top to bottom than their S&S counterparts. If I'm not mistaken, the S&S cards have green backs while these are normal card-stock colored. The back on mine is actually blank. No overprints, so Frank, you can add "blank backs" to your list above.
One thing I'm curious about are the tiny, little lines on the right and left borders of mine. Really does give you the impression that the cards were cut off the S&S game cards. Attachment 20319 |
Hi Brian,
Thanks for posting, That is interesting, the small lines show they were cut from the same sheets. I found your Young online with a search (only found 4-5 different cards on Google), but didnt see the lines until you pointed them out. The only other cards I located was the Gehringer that BMW has for $1K. They are tough. BTW I just measured them to a tan S&S.... They are 3/16" taller that what a "finished" S&S card would be if cut. http://centuryoldcards.com/images/19...ubbellpsa8.jpg |

By the way, I wanted to throw a shout out to Rhett Yeakley as what little knowledge I have about this scarce issue came from him. As did the card :) Thought this threat could use a bump just in case Rhett didn't see it before and wanted to chime in....

Also, is there a list of the known cards anywhere?
I see we're starting a list of the backs....the more knowledge the better! |
Candy Card
I am looking for 1928 Star Player Candy. The information I have, it is classified...E-UNC. The player I am looking for is George Gerken. Does anyone have a picture/scan of this card so I can see what I am looking for.
Thank you..... |
