[REMOVED] This forum is done.

fkw 05-26-2010 02:47 PM

Easily my fav Waddell. :)

Ive seen another picture, but not sure if its the same exact card or not.

terjung 05-26-2010 03:17 PM

Doesn’t board member Brian Campf collect these? Wonder if he won it?

slidekellyslide 05-26-2010 03:42 PM

The Bregstones are awesome. There was another one that sold recently in a smaller internet auction.

I'm not sure, but I know of one other board member who would just love this piece. Very nice!!

rhettyeakley 05-26-2010 04:52 PM

Bill, I was bidding on it last night (along w/ several board members I'm sure!) but I'm pretty sure this card was part of the collection that belonged to the late Richard Merkin (interestingly he is among the many people featured on the front cover of the Beatles' Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band album). Hake's is selling his entire collection on behalf of the family.

I had my eye on it for sure, however I already went way over budget for May...excellent PC!!

Bicem 05-26-2010 07:02 PM

amazing, amazing, amazing postcard... but definitely not unique.

ElCabron 05-27-2010 03:59 PM

I believe I was the under-under-bidder. Had I not won the items I wound up winning I would have been willing to go at least one bid higher than it closed at. I've been looking for that postcard for around 10 years. Congrats to whoever won it.

A very cool image. I've heard of the issue before, but have never seen one in person. It seems like it actually lives up to the "rare" billing. Congrats to whoever landed it.

Here's the one that recently sold in an online postcard auction...this is easily one of the coolest prewar postcard sets. The images are so crisp.

Bicem 05-27-2010 05:45 PM

sweet pic, how much did it sell for?

$600 was the final bid...not sure what the buyers premium was.

This postcard was also in the auction..and I think a regular board member on the memorabilia side may have won it.

Bicem 05-27-2010 06:00 PM

$600 doesn't seem bad! I saw the post about the Matty that the poster deleted after realizing that it was probably not the best idea to out the auction. Gorgeous postcard! What year is it? What did that sell for?

Thanks!

slidekellyslide 05-27-2010 06:05 PM

That one also sold for $600...not sure what year it's from. Looks like a one off by a local photographer from someplace, somewhere.

Bicem 05-27-2010 06:07 PM

damn, steal!

note to self... search for online postcard auctions.

calvindog 05-27-2010 06:13 PM

Dan, which auctions did those PCs come from (other than Hakes)?

prewarsports 05-27-2010 06:17 PM

WCM on ebay also sold one earlier this Month on ebay. Went for about $600-$700 as well if I remember right. It was a common but I cant remember who.

Lyn Knight Postcard auctions.

That Waddell is suweeeet!!

Edited to add that Waddell is the card pictured at the head of this set in my 2005 Standard Catalog and the one in this post appears to be a different (and nicer) example.

Greenmonster 05-27-2010 11:26 PM

I admit - Bridesmaid again

Yes I was Bridesmaid on the Waddell but I did roll over the budget for a couple of wins in the Legendary auction.

bcornell 05-28-2010 10:41 AM

another Bregstone

This one sold on eBay several years ago. I haven't seen another on that site since.

he was posting this one.

So I didn't want to say anything until I had the card in hand (superstitious like that) but I won the Bregstone Rube and it arrived today. It's really nice! This scan gives you a better idea of what it really looks like...

also, picked up this Waddell related postcard from ebay... (top row, 2nd from left, Joe McGinnity also pictured in the middle)

Jeff,
Fantastic pickup
glad you won it

ElCabron 06-04-2010 03:34 PM

Jeff,

I saw the Newark postcard after it ended. Nice find. Pretty good week for you in terms of rare Waddell postcard pick-ups. Kind of a vintage card version of two (3 really) perfect games in one month.

Nice ones Jeff. I am sure you are happy to add them to your collection.

Sixtofan 06-05-2010 06:16 AM

Some great items

I have never really looked at postcards - those are some fantastic items. Congratulations to all

Marckus99 06-08-2010 07:54 PM

Only $2K?

I wish I had $3K to bid, easily a bargain....

Can't be many of them floating around - a true gem.

Bicem 06-09-2010 07:43 AM

agreed Mark, I was prepared for a much tougher battle for it, I think the small auction venue kept the price down.

Interesting read on the previous owner, he was quite the character...
