Wagner Auto

This thread was posted over on GUU and i thought i would get your guys opinion because i know we have more auto people over here. So the thread was about whether this Wagner was real or not(one on the left). One writer thinks its a fake, i think it matches his others, both came from a past REA auction.

i don't know much about autographs...but those 2 wagner auto's above look nothing alike to me! The one with all the stars of the field doesn't look real to me either.

I have seen several "late in life" Wagners that look like the index card. Tho its kinda funky, I think its ok.

Yes- Ugly as it is, I too think it's ok. His signature varied a lot through his lifetime, and this ugly shakier version usually seems to sell at somewhat of a discount.

The photo on the right is fake.

Are not most/all of them fake on the right side? I know Gehrig, McGraw, Mathewson, Ewing and Ruth are bad as well...

With respect to the photo on the right, all signatures are supposedly authentic except for the following secretarial signatures:

Gehrig, McGraw, Mathewson, Ewing

Not Ruth? Sure looks like a sharpie/felt tip marker, but may just be the scan.

J.McMurry 05-26-2010 12:33 PM

Of course it's just my opinion, but I wouldnt spend money on any of those sigs
on the photo.

The Gehrig is not "secretarial," it is a rubber stamp he used starting in 1940, when he could no longer write. It dates the photograph.

The Ruth, Cobb, Speaker, Wagner, and Lajoie are good.

McGraw, Mathewson, and Ewing were long dead by 1940--and, I'm sure, long dead by the time the page was printed. Those are forgeries.

Not sure about the Collins.
