Ending tonight!!! Still WAYYYY under VCP! If I am gonna lose my shirt, I want to see them go into the Set Registry at least!

UGGGGG - - no wonder sellers don't run auctions anymore, and BIN's outnumber them 10-1....I am SOOOO sick of giving stuff away!! I do hope ya'll were able to steal something from me....at least I will feel better if someone from the boards won something and not a reseller.....

...for $15 worth of cards based their plastic casing, I'm not really sure what you are complaining about.

sounds like you did pretty well for commons.... if you don't like sell prices, you have three options, put a reserve on them, have your starting price as your reserve or don't sell them!
while there is a demand for higher graded cards, in turn, they were commons.... and if you got 275$ for 15$ in cards, that is 18X guide, you did well.( i didnt look up the numbers, im going by Doug's post.) i'd be happy with 2X guide. |
well put Fubar......I guess I was basing my expectations on past sales and VCP averages...when you see one card sell for $60 and the other one sell for $30 within a month of each other, and they are exactly the same, it makes me wonder "what is wrong with mine"......
Doug's post is incorrect.....it makes me think he is just flying off at the mouth and is really unsure of the value of high grade cards in the 1959 set. |
PS - if you have any 4 1959 Topps commons in a PSA 9, I will give you $100 for them!!!! So you can buy them for $15, and I'll pay you $100!!! Good deal for you!

past sales can be sometimes deceiving. If two guys want one card, they can drive up the price, however, next time the same card could only have one guy that really wants it because the other guy now has one.. chances are the price will drop.....
There are a lot of guys like me out there that appreciate high graded cards, but also like me, they do not collect commons unless it is pre-war. My issue is space and money constraints. |
I will admit that my post was a bit snotty, but my records show me that I paid a total of $15 for the same four cards in decently centered, nice corners, nice colors condition when I was putting my 1959 set together within the last few years.
I am 12 cards away from completing "master" sets of all Topps regular issue sets from 1952 thru 1981, so I am well versed in the costs of each individual card, and their variations, at least in regards to what they have cost me. Doug |

I totally didn't expect that!! I honestly thought it would sell for $30......the only thing I could think of, was that TWO people both sniped that high of an amount!! Bear in mind, that card wasn't bid up, it was SNIPED by, not one, but TWO people!! Maybe there is a rarity to that particular variation that I am unaware of?? I am not that familiar with the 1956 variations, so maybe someone smarter than me can help out with that one. I also know that it appeared to be undergraded.....It looked like a 7 or 7.5 to me. Maybe that had something to do with it??

I apologize....I don't believe I was complaining....I was helping to explain the difference of someone who thought PSA 9's were $15 cards (when obivously past auction sales and VCP records says otherwise)........

My cards are, based on your scans, of similar quality to yours.
Would PSA or SCG or WTF card grading company allow me to pay them a fee, put my cards into plastic cases, and give each of my cards (their opinion of) a grade? Would that grade be a 9? Or only an 8.72865? Or maybe I would get an 8.72866? Dare I say a 9.00001? We'll never know. I suppose that any grading company would be happy to accept a fee from me, but of the 42,628 different pre-1993 Topps cards that I own, a grand total of zero are graded. I stand by my original post. Every graded 9 card began life with a cost considerably less than $15, they are still out there. I'll bet Ted Z has a bunch of them. I'm sorry that you are so disappointed with how your slabs sold, I'm also sorry that you (and too many others) treat the cards inside the slabs as an afterthought. No offense taken, and none meant to be given. Your post reminds me of the old days at card shows where a sellers says his card is MINT, and would grade no better than a 6....7 if you were lucky. As much as you disdain card grading, it is an unfortunate necessary evil in the hobby. And unfortunately, a graded card already slabbed a '9', I would take any day over the same raw card that some seller describes as MINT. That is an unfortunate byproduct of 3rd party grading......That is why my graded '9' would command $100, and is how you were able to get your raw MINT card for $5. Does that mean my '9' and your raw are on equal ground?? I don't think so......
