1950 - 1952 bowman cards / sets
 

Hello, everybody!! I been and still thinking of putting together these sets. I love the everything about these : cards, set size, and checklist. My question to everybody is;

How does everybody store or display them? Are there pages just for the small bowman cards or top loaders?

Would like to get some great ideas for you guys. Thanks, Ron

Hey Roncey,

I enjoy flipping through my cards looking at them individually so I do not use pages or albums. Also, I am a little concerned with bending cards when I turn the pages. I store my smaller Bowmans in inverted penny sleeves (inverted so the cards can't slide out the top) and then put them in card savers. The penny sleeves keep them from sliding around and the card savers make them easy to view. This is just a personal preference. Others, I am sure use penny sleeves and store them in albums. I used to put them in pages. There were pages made just for the small bowman cards. But those were the old vinyl pages that aren't good for the cards in the long run. I'm not sure if any modern version is available. I'm slowly getting out of pages/albums. I find that sometimes the pages aren't stiff enough to keep from sagging if the album is vertical. So whatever is in the lower right pocket can get bent. Storing them flat has its own problems, most pages will stick together, and there's a risk of bending when you pull them apart. Less with modern pages like ultrapro but it can happen.

What I'm going to is
nothing at all for beaters- unless there's tape or bad enough damage that the card is fragile.
Penny sleeves for worn cards with already bad corners or creases.
Penny sleeves for many 70's commons
Penny sleeve and toploader for anything that's reasonably nice.

Sometimes I'll use the toploader for more expensive cards in any condition.
And I may start with cardsavers just to save a bit of space for some sets.

You've picked three of my favorite sets. The artwork is truly amazing, especially when you consider how many great images somebody had to paint to create both the baseball and football sets. I keep mine top loaders ...

Yeah, I'm with you - I first loved the 51 and 52 sets because of the art work and smaller size; there was just something about them coming out of the waxpacks that seemed more appealing than the larger Topps product. I keep mine in an older mylar sleeve that was marketed back in the 80's when I was putting the sets together. Don't know if those are still around, but, like the poster above, I find it more enjoyable to handle the cards individually, rather than look at pages.
