REA Lot #1704

The winner of REA's Lot #1704, if you would like to sell one of the E94 Lajoie's please contact me at jsimas@sbcglobal.net. Thanks

tbob 05-05-2010 11:11 PM

If the winning bidder wishes to sell the E94 dark green Dougherty please contact me at trophybob@sbcglobal.net.
Also if the E94 Byrne with "3 borders trimmed" is the olive green background variety, I would be interested in that card also, even though it is only authentic.Bob M.

I wanted to make sure the seller got a fair price for his card. It's not some kind of game of hide-and-seek, you know.

Really

In absolute agreement here. What a boring hobby this would be without this board. :p

Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and
how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better
self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not
to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic lives, this is who we are
to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing.

chaddurbin 05-16-2010 10:25 AM

jeff,

i don't appreciate you bumping this thread and bringing more awareness to the e94 lajoie being sold by just collect.

p.s. we get it...lay off the cobbs, don't bid against a dark and disturbed man

Wow, I guess two collectors really wanted the Lajoie.

Yea, the SMR value (which ppl often say is too high) was only $275 and the card went for $545.

SMR is wildly off with 90% of pre-war issues - high and low. If you're going to colelct pre-war, do not rely on SMR for anything informative.

Geez!

What exactly is the point of this board if you can't look out for the other members by pointing out an item they may be looking for. Ebay isn't exactly a secret you know. Chill out guys!

Matt 05-24-2010 10:51 AM

they were joking - no one was upset.

tbob 05-24-2010 11:26 AM

Based on my experience collecting E94s I think the price was very reasonable. The SMRs for E94s is so far off it is ridiculous. I paid about that amount for the E94 gold Chance on the BST and was happy to get it. HOF E94 cards, especially, are very tough to find and its all a matter of timing. Had I not already had a blue Lajoie, I can guarantee the card would have gone for much more.

What was the VCP for that card? Closer or still wide variations?

All over the place - sales from $170-$565 over the last 4 years.

Real tough to price these E94 cards because the different colors matter. Even tougher in SGC 10 because that encompasses everything from the worst beater to a nice looking card on front with back damage.

Cheers,
Blair

glchen 05-24-2010 01:01 PM

Yea, I saw that w/ the Lajoie in that the seller specified blue background. However, the pop reports for the card doesn't have blue. I'm new to E94 (even though I like how the cards look). Is there a consensus on what are the colors for the various players and how rare these are? (similar to the backs for T206)

tbob 05-24-2010 09:46 PM

The grading services do not differentiate betweem the colors when they do their grading or their pop reports so it is difficult to tell which of the 6 (actually 7 but that's another story for another day) colors is the toughest. I've accumulated a lot of E94s, buying them card by card, so I have an idea as to color scarcity. The general consensus appears to be that gold and violet are the toughest but that olive green (the lighter green) is the hardest to find in nice shape for some bizarre reason. The caveat is that certain players are almost impossible to find in certain colors for some reason. An example is the Bates card, which although tough just like all E94s, has been impossible for me to find with a red background. Violet and gold were found quickly but red has been a real pain.
