new members in April

We had 78 new members go through the simple, but not without a bit of process, registration on the board in April to become new members. I want to welcome all of those new members. If any of ya'll have any general questions you can post them here. If there is anything you would like to know and don't want to ask publicly, you can always PM me or another moderator. Also, if any of the folks that have ever registered and not posted want to say hi, feel free to. I think it's pretty neat that we have so many new folks signing up. Now if we can just get them to participate ;). And so I can make this a vintage thread here is one of my fave PC's....

Welcome to all new members! It's great to make your collection available to be seen by other members. I/we enjoy seeing what everyone else collects!

First time "poster"

I have been a lurker on this site for much longer than I care to disclose. But Leon's "welcome" post (and all the hard work I know he must devote to this board) has encouraged me to join the ranks of posting participants.

Quick bio - I inherited my father's 1933/1934 Goudey collection on his passing, years ago. I have enjoyed thumbing through the legends he collected, and admired.

Question - the Goudey collection is all raw, unslabbed cards. I've often been tempted to submit for grading, but the fees for having Ruth/Gehrig cards graded have deterred me from getting this done. Especially since the higher the value, the higher the fee.

Am I confused about the fees for getting these cards graded?
I won't know the fee until SCG determines the grade - which seems to me to be a conflict of interest - higher grade, higher fee?

Leon - thank you for all the hard work to keep this site so relevant and enjoyable.

Bob

Hi Bob
Welcome to the board, thanks for posting and thanks for the kind words.

If you are in the right ballpark with your declared values you should be fine. You can always call them and discuss it. Their customer service is top notch.

I had noticed new posters recently, and considered that good. Welcome, as they say.

Very happy to be here! After joining last month I've found myself checking in daily to read new posts even though I don't respond much. I'm still very vintage naive, but I'm loving learning more.

First time post!

Thanks for the kind welcome. I find this site very interesting and plan to participate more. I have been collecting in small quanities for 25 years and I just love having and seeing the vintage cards and memorabilia. Thanks.

Besides lurkers, which I would guess would be quite a few, we have 1841 real, registered users today. That number is growing quite a bit though. The very large number you see at the bottom of the page, (over 10k today) includes those users that are not real people and have registered through rogue scripts written to disrupt Vbulletin users, such as ourselves.

You do a great job in keeping spam posts off this board. Other boards I visit (non-sports card related) have a good bit of spam.
