To Dallas area Net 54 members

A few months ago, Rich Klein mentioned that there was a card show this weekend, at the Arlington Convention Center. Except for the fact that it starts tomorrow, all details escape me.

Anyone going?

Mikehealer 04-22-2010 11:24 AM

I am a couple of hours away. I would be interested if there is any prewar stuff.
Maybe Rich or someone that knows will chime in.

docpatlv 04-22-2010 11:24 AM

Jim,

According to Beckett's show calender, it's 100 tables, with show hours on Fri(12-6), Sat(10-5) and Sun (10-4).

Mike

vintagetoppsguy 04-22-2010 11:26 AM

I live in Houston and I've made the drive before, but not this time.

Here are the details if anybody is interested.

Bicem 04-22-2010 11:33 AM

why do I get the feeling the pre-war selection will be next to nothing?

Jim VB 04-22-2010 11:39 AM

Thanks for the additional info guys!

Anyone laying odds on whether or not Gooden actually makes it to the show?

If I go, I'll pick you up a shiny postcard.

Rich Klein 04-22-2010 01:06 PM

Roger N will be there

And maybe Paul Sjolin of Houston. Leon, I know we had talked about going to the show -- if you want to go on Saturday morning let me know so we can drive out together. (No reason for both of us to drive the same way for that whole distance :) )

Regards
Rich

Leon 04-22-2010 01:09 PM

45 minutes

I have been to this show several times and there is some, but not a lot, of vintage. I wouldn't drive a few hours to get to it but since I am only 45 minutes away I might go.....There are so few shows in Dallas that this is the odd chance to get to go to a local one. Since my expectation is to find nothing I am sure I won't be too disappointed. If anyone else wants to go shoot me an email at leonl@flash.net or post in this thread, and maybe we can go together...depending on where you are.

JimVB- if you go, you and I really should go together...same with you Jeff P...and you too Rich K, if you are going...

Rich Klein 04-22-2010 01:12 PM

Leon

Like I said; I can go on Saturday Morning/Early Afternoon (as long as I'm back by 4) so I'm up for that. Leon, let's figure out when we can go if that works for you and let's carpool :)

Rich

Leon 04-22-2010 01:19 PM

Rich

Hey Rich
Sounds good.....

JimVb or Jeff P, let us know and we can go together. I am sure we won't stay too long.....go early and leave early....I can't imagine we would be at it more than an hour or two....

Jim VB 04-22-2010 02:26 PM

If I go, I think I have to go tomorrow, when real people have to go to work, not Saturday.

Yes, he will. And he has a lot of vintage and prewar. I saw him in Houston at a small show last weekend, and he seems to have more prewar than I've seen from him in the past. He had some T3s that really caught my eye.

I don't know if Paul will be there, but I don't know why he wouldn't be.

Potomac Yank 04-22-2010 04:23 PM

After reading this thread .....

For the love of me, I don't understand how Santa Ana lost?

I kept telling him ... "Just take the Alamo, and forget about the rest."

But "No" he kept saying ... "There's gotta be some vintage in the rest of Texas." :)

Jim VB-If you go today would you post if there is much prewar.
Thanks
Mike

Bicem 04-23-2010 08:30 AM

What time are you guys thinking of going? Could I get a ride if I do decide to go?

Flintboy 04-23-2010 08:33 AM

Paul WILL not be there.... I was hoping he would be, as his prices always seem to be reasonable. Roger is a nice enough guy but his pricing is a little high for me.

Leon 04-23-2010 08:41 AM

Rich K and I

I think Rich K and I will be going tomorrow morning. If anyone wants to go I will be driving.....Roger N is always fun to talk to. I used to be able to pick stuff up from him but nowadays something really has to be "rare" for me to need or want it....and he usually doesn't have a lot of really esoteric stuff....

Rich Klein 04-23-2010 01:02 PM

As of lunchtime today

Leon and myself are leaving my house in East Plano at approximately 9:15 tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Whomever wants to join us, you are welcome to join us or if you are on the way; we'll meet up with you :) There is plenty of room in Leon's car; trust me I've been in that car enough :)

Regards
Rich

Hey Rich
A quick report from the show today is that it's about the same as usual :). Walk in, look at Roger N's table...chat with him a few minutes, walk around the room....see that there isn't any other vintage and make our trek back home. Scott B gave me the report and said he ran into JimVB there also......I am still looking forward to it. I sure wish there was a good vintage show in the DFW area. See ya about 9:15am tomorrow...

Jim VB 04-23-2010 02:21 PM

Leon, Rich, Jeff, and Mike

I just sent you a PM with almost exactly that same report.

I think we won't soon see a good vintage show in the Dallas area. Too much NASCAR and too many mullets.

I would pay handsomely to have enough hair for a mullet!!!

Potomac Yank 04-23-2010 02:47 PM

Just like I told Santa Ana .....

"Take the Alamo, and forget about the rest" .....

If you want vintage ... go see Scott B.

But No ... he had to go for Big D, and the rest.

Joe,

Do you only remember to take your meds every other day? :)

Bicem 04-23-2010 03:01 PM

thanks for the reports and invite, think I'm just going to sit this one out.

Howe’s Hunter 04-23-2010 03:04 PM

Leon, there may be something there for you

I hear one of the booths has one of John Kruk's old mullets for sale.

barrysloate 04-23-2010 03:26 PM

I looked up "mullet" in two different dictionaries and it's a fish. Does it have another meaning? I think I'm missing a joke.:(

Leon 04-23-2010 03:39 PM

Damn Jim, I think you nailed it .....

 I'm suppose to take 'em every day???

Did Santa Ana forget to take his with him on the trip??? :)

But .....

After hearing from the voices of Texas on this thread, and having the great pleasure of meeting Scott B. at the Chantilly show in Virginia, (with a very nice representation of Vintage cards) ..... I'm finding it very difficult believing that Texas can't come up with a good vintage card show.

If that's the case ..... someone isn't trying ... and some Texas collectors are waiting for the smart ones to come looking for them.

They are there ... and they are waiting. :)

barrysloate 04-23-2010 05:37 PM

Thanks guys, that is one funky do. And you don't see it around these parts too often...thankfully.

Rich Klein 04-23-2010 07:12 PM

Since I like both old and new

I'll enjoy whatever I see tomorrow and it will be fun as always to chat with Leon on the way.

Regards
Rich

Can I go too?

Hey, can you guys pick me up in Wisconsin on the way to the show?

Thanks, I'll see you in the morning.

Rick
