"'CLUBEHOUSE' (sic) VERSION", Ruth Sig.
"THE BALL HAS A BABE RUTH AUTOGRAPH IT IS DEEMED CLUBEHOUSE VERSION."
Um, this means what? That the bat boy signed it? http://tinyurl.com/yc99vk5 |
In this particular case, the "clubhouse Ruth" is a Sinclair Contest Ball. It's a somewhat rare and desirable item on its own (even though it wasn't signed by the Babe). It is even rarer to see authentic Cobb and Speaker sigs on a ball like this. Why someone chose to add Pete Rose is simply beyond me, as it actually devalues the ball. A Ball with just Cobb, Speaker and the Sinclair Ruth would be worth lots more without Rose.
In most cases, "clubhouse" means that a locker room attendant or Bat Boy signed a team ball in the particular player's absence. This was somewhat common, but the clubhouse Ruth sigs you normally see are different from this example. Hope this helps... |
as far as i know, it means someone else signed it. The Ruth looks wrong to me, the "R" is not right for sure.
From personal experience, I know alot of Gretzky auto's are dressing room autos signed by a guy called "Rick the Stick". He signed so many of Wayne's autos that his signature is nearly impossible to detect from the real one. |
