Team Photo circa 1915
4 Attachment(s)
This is a team photo of my wife's grandfathers baseball team. Charles Lloyd Brown was born in 1895. My wife's mother ( Hester Brown) was born in 1922 and I am sure the photo is taken before that.
I have done a little research and have come up with very little-just want to share it and if anyone does know anything -please tell If the scans turn out too large I can crop them and repost Attachment 16564 Attachment 16565 Attachment 16566 Attachment 16567 |
Charles is in the back row far left
|
Jim ... That is one outstanding image of an early team .....
I'm willing to bet that one, or a few of our image aficionados will add info about this team image.
OK image diggers ... Go get 'em! :) |
I think it's probably the U of Oklahoma baseball team..maybe the Freshman squad.
|
Dan, I'm glad you chimed in .....
I looked at these threads, the images are gone, but the entries by the diggers are thought provoking.

Most of the guys who like to identify old photos like these are over on the Memorabilia side so I may move this over there if it doesn't get any action here.
|
thanks dan-my wife and I have tried to look at the yearbooks like you said but not getting much
the guy sitting front row far left reminds me of Jeremy J. Nashvillebaseball (Hi Jeremy). I have only met you once at the National but he looks like a relative of yours. Any relatives from Okalahoma? Looks Native American. anyway hope to keep this going a bit |
Dan, why not .....

Why not place it over on the Memorabilia side, and keep it over here. That way we'll have a double barrel activity in the Bull Pen. It isn't every day that a baseball forum can help a fellow member with a personal baseball research. |
That's a good idea Joe...since it is a family thing for Jim the more eyes the see it the better.
Go ahead and make the same post on the memorabilia side Jim and I'll leave this one here. |
Go for it Jimbo .....

Now that's what makes a forum, a fun forum. The competition is on. The Memorabilia Guys vs The Cardoholics. Go Sickos Go! :) |
The cadet collars on jerseys appeared in the major leagues beginning, I believe, in 1909 (see for ex. Cubs), along with the vertical lettering. It did not stay popular long - just a few years. (see also PCL teams for similar).
I would say U of Oklahoma is a good guess if your wife's grandfather may have attended - directly contacting their athletic dept miay be a good place to start. |
Okla...
Jim,
Really cool piece! Re/ : "the guy sitting front row far left reminds me of Jeremy J. Nashvillebaseball (Hi Jeremy). I have only met you once at the National but he looks like a relative of yours. Any relatives from Okalahoma? Looks Native American." - Interesting you mention this b/c after looking at that photo, it reminded me of my Dad as there are a few photo's of my father we have when he was younger that look very similar to that dude and yes, we have Native American Indian in us ! Also, English and German !! Our families are from Kentucky/Tennessee area. I do have some relatives in Oklahoma, but not sure of origins.... You never know. That fella could be my great uncle ! lol |
ok just got back in -I will post over the other side-
ok it is over there now -thank you guys |

Edited to add: I don't have a good pic of Elmer to compare. |
Maybe this will help... got this about 20 years ago from Larry Fritsch.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...nderZeeNut.jpg I can just see him nonchalantly whipping that sidearm crap past some poor batter. |
The only guy that I think looks close to Ponder is on the back row far right. Mark or someone else will have to make the call....
|
Jim R
great piece, ole buddy.
thanks for sharing. best, barry |
That is a very cool photo, whatever it is.

Wow - Joe you were right-this did get some attention and i want to thank everybody for looking and trying.
I talked to my wife and she said I don't think my grandfather went to the University of Oklahoma. I am leaning with maybe a high school team.I will check as much as I can and with the family and post what I find. |
They do look high school aged...and why I thought maybe it was a Freshman squad from OU. It would be unusual to have uniforms that do not indicate they are a High School team though.
|
Although I'm an illiterate in many areas .....
Computers, and such head the list .....
Is it possible to to have a copy of the Cardoholic approach to the Oklahoma team project, and a copy of the Memorabilia approach to the same project shown on each forum? The reason why I ask is this. Having checked out both forums, I see that there are some questions asked, that the other forum does not see. Being that this is a joint effert by both forums, It would double the chances of coming up with an answer. You could call each thread, the Memorabilia approach, cardoholic approach, or whatever ... the bottom line is the project. Just a thought. Can it be done? |
Here are some great links that are full of info and some nice pics of Oklahoma Sports teams. I think it is really well done and it mentions several local teams as well as High School competion info. I think if you really dig into all the info, you might find the missing link.
Bob Burke and Larry O'Dell of the Oklahoma Historical Society really have done a great job. At the bottom of each page are "quick links" for Golf, Sports, Indains, etc. all pertaining to Oklahoma. Below are two links: One for Baseball and one for Football. Football link has a Great photo. Hope this helps http://digital.library.okstate.edu/e...s/B/BA030.html http://digital.library.okstate.edu/e...s/F/FO015.html |
