I’m offering an online course on how to identify and date photographs from the 1800s to today. Students will learn how to identify, date and research photographs ranging from duaguerreotypes to real photo postcards, cabinet cards to snapshots, tintypes to wirephotos. Complete beginners to the more experienced are welcome. The course is intended to be informative and enjoyable.

The course is online and conducted in a chatboard format not unlike Net54baseball. This means students and I will be able to interact with each other, posts photos etc. Due to the chatboard format, students can post at their convenience during the day and have the course fit around his schedule. The course will be based on Judging the Authenticty of Photographs. There will be weekly reading with online discussion of the material. Each will you will learn about a new area.

This chatboard-style course is a common style used in colleges these days, and, in fact, I got the idea from taking such a course at Oxford.

The course is approx. 2 month and starts on May 17.

To pass the course, students will have to participate regularly in discussions and pass a final test. If a student wishes, he can audit the course without the test nor passing grade.

Cost to take the course : $25
If you wish to sign up for the course, paypal the $25 to cycleback@cycleback.com
And feel free to ask/post questions comments.
