scg vs. psa ?

i am new to all this vintage baseball card stuff and i have been given flak as to my getting cards graded by scg ,i was told psa graded cards fetch higher premiums. what gives?

They used to years ago. Not so sure now. Getting a 1-month membership to Vintage Card Prices to check would be worth the price.

You might get higher prices if you bought a scanner. Your pictures of the
Lajoie were not very good. Either grading company is ok.

What's scg? Did you mean SGC?

Dead Ball

Dead ball era cards are good in either. After that PSA cards have been fetching higher prices than SGC cards.

Sgc

I really don't like PSA holders.

All of my pre war cards are graded by SGC. I like the way they look with the custom black insert in each slab. Quite a few other board members would agree with this statement.

I only have 1 card graded by PSA - 1951 Bowman Mantle.

Thanks,
Tony

I only submit to SGC and I collect post war cards. While I am not a seller I prefer the SGC holder by far to PSA's as it protects the card and it doen't bounce around I really don't get the popularity of PSA they have horrible customer service and take months to grade cards then you have to play the crack and resub game. But what an intelligent business decision it was coming up with the half point scale, I wonder how much they made off those regrades and the crack/resubs those generated.

I know he is not on these boards now

But ask Jim Crandall about his original reaction to the 1/2 pt bump scale.

He came around once they cut him a deal on the price per card, explained the policy that only allowed the grades to go up. not down, and asked him to calculate how much more an 8.5 was worth vs. an 8.
