Huggins and Scott winnings
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone win anything in Huggins and Scott? It seemed like I was on a dry spell except for the Oxford PC on our BST yesterday. Glad to knock this one off the list...

My one and only winning. And probably one of my last purchases for at least a year (I have one more small card purchase planned). Nothing like home improvements to strain the card budget (or bring it to an absolute halt.)
|
I lost out on the "Potpourri" of 32 caramel and tobacco cards. I'd really like the e103s out of that group just in case anyone from Net 54 managed to win that group.
I did manage to pick up both the group of 7 e92 Croft's Candy cards as well as the group of 5 t215 Red Crosses though.... |

But wait there is more :)
I still can't figure out where the other bidder was on this one last night? Three months ago the, almost identical but not quite as nice card, went for almost double what this one did (see link)? I thought I would lose out... http://www.goodwinandco.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=12565 |
Leon- you had a big night snagging two top line cards, not to mention the postcard (I'm posting gratuitously now to reach my 2000th post. I can feel it coming).:)
|
Leon, the other bidder never showed up? Huggins and Scott is a big outfit, you would think their catalogs would hit all the same bidders.
|
Leon, Congratulations on the two big wins. Top notch material to be sure.
Though i struck out on both nights, i'm pleased to see that fellow Board Members were able to add to their collections. Hope a nice auction was had by all. Brian |

Decided my collection needed a Gehrig :)
|
I didn't have a good night either. I somehow managed to snag one lot (# 612...64 1909-1941 Pre-War Baseball Singles with (22) Hall of Famers including Ruth), which I clung-to for dear life. Otherwise, the bidding was out of my league. Darn Canadians and their stout exhange rate :)!!!
Lovely Day... |

I never had acquired an M101-6...so figured this was as good of time as any....and I like catchers garb.

Leon,
The card you picked up was the second one offered for sale after a find so the price would be lower. The first one out there always gets more. A good deal for you. Congrats.

Who won the Seamless Steel Cobb postcard?

Hey, that was me!
|
Cheapskate!
|
I had a feeling it was Jeff. Congrats. Thats an amazing card to add to your amazing collection.
|
I think Jeff meant that he came in second.
|
Steve, correct. I loved the card but just couldn't rationalize spending 15K for it. Had a hard time rationalizing 13K but some greater force guided my hand to the enter key on my computer.
|
If anyone won the E98 lot I would love a shot at the Walsh orange background!

Must have been the flowery description :D |
No, had a flowery description been included I'd still be bidding on the card.

Nice Fluff Dave!
And a very sweet card! Enjoy it at least as much as Jihadi enjoys his! ;)

No. It didn't. But it did leave room for that card to be flipped in a future auction of another rival! |
btw
BTW, I was contacted by the underbidder on the Lindy card I won. He's a very good friend and someone I spend a lot of time with at the National shows. I was also contacted by a few bidders on the Goodwin one. There is no doubt in my mind that the Goodwin auction was completely legit. The 2nd-card-out theory held up on this one......
|
Gosh Leon don't set the record straight now. I just hate when facts get added to the mix it just kills a good ol' Net54 style lynching.
Well there goes this thread... |
I know Greg
I sort of hated to be a downer......and right when I was going to announce there were actually 3 guys on the grassy knoll!!

Jeff I know you would not represent Dave unless he were completely innocent so really, let's get back to the real problem of the hobby, Goodwin.
|
Your wish is my command
D304 Mathewson SGC 60:
9/30/09 Huggins & Scott $7,312.50 5/3/09 REA $4,700.00 5/30/08 Goodwin $45,123.50 4/29/07 REA $6,462.50 6/8/06 Goodwin $8,471.86 I represent Dave in civil matters only. And last time I checked, Dave Forman wasn't the target of a two year criminal grand jury probe. And he has never been arrested or convicted of a crime. Let's make a list of the other big names in the hobby to determine if they can say the same. |
Zzzzzzzzzzz
|
In fact, let me start the list. Anyone on Net 54 who has never been charged with a crime, convicted of a crime or ever been a target of a grand jury investigation list their names below:
Me |
This seems to be your area of obsession so please feel free to fill in the list. Shouldn't you be spending time with your family today?
|
Yes, fraud is my obsession along with rooting out criminals in our hobby. Sorry it puts you asleep and sorry you can't add your name to the list.
|
I can add your name to my list however.

Hey, I was starting to get uncomfortable with folks mocking our writing. Thanks for shifting into a different direction :)

No offense taken David :) Although I do try to do a good job as writer, sometimes over floweryness (I know that's not a word!) can take over. When I got hired in 2006, the head writer told me "Try to sound like the New York Times...not the New Yorker". Take care :)

Nice auction. I was shut out of the pre-war card action but did manage to win some football programs.

I seem to remember a cool card was offered at auction.... then months later a second one --- a much nicer, SGC 84, came around and went for right around the same money as a crappy, ugly, can't hardly look at it, beater. I can't remember which card it was though. |

Joe, do you remember when that second auction took place? If you can give me a date I might recall the card.

sorry - can't seem to remember the date. wish I could - it would make it easier to figure out what card it was. |
Hmmm...keep thinking Joe. PS -- how cool is my new signature line?
