which auction house have the sliding BP scale?
 

as the final price go up, the buyers' premium go down...i thought that was a great incentive for buyers. i remember it was huggins & scott but as i went to make a bid i double checked and it's now 17.5% straight across. maybe my memory has decided it's had enough and pack up & left :confused:

I am not speaking for Huggins and Scott but I feel very confident they will work with consignors on fees. They are super easy to work with and actually pick up the phone if you call them. One of the best auction houses in the business, imho. (even if they weren't an advertiser :))

whether they advertise or not, they can also be unreasonable....spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-20,000 on one of their auctions about 5 yrs ago---at the same time they had a t206 common on ebay I won--was about $45.00--I had the same card being shipped and when I asked them if I could not take the card even though it was my mistake, I was told no , was lectured on how when one makes a mistake they "suffer the consequences" or some words close to that, and then proceeded to tell me that if it were their mistake they would , but it was MY mistake (which I admitted from the get- go). That's why not .01 of my approx $500,000 in purchases since has gone to Huggins and Scott. And I'm from Silver Spring MD too!!

bill--that does sound a little harsh if the story is true, but maybe their auctions and ebay are 2 separate divisions...and they outsource the ebay side to a bunch of heartless, cold, compassionless robots.

Sometimes sellers don't take the long term perspective. Many years ago I bought a PSA 8 card from a dealer who is now a leading auction house and it had a little crease in the back that was readily visible. He nonetheless refused to take it back and forced me to deal with PSA. No more business since that time.

That is not possible. He has never sold a card with a crease.

He didn't even deny it, just said it was not his problem or words to that effect. There is another dealer/auction house I won't deal with. Back before the internet, I called him about a card that happened not to be that valuable. He answered the phone, I said I had questions about a card, he asked which one, and when I told him he handed me off to his assistant. And that was the end of that. Nemo me impune lacessit.

Nah I only have done that once ever, when Steve Timmons sold me four trimmed cards and was refusing to take them back after PSA had rejected them. I politely told him we could either do this the easy way or the hard way and that I didn't really much care which.

let's see--- Same phone #, same address, same ownership, and I bought through their Ebay NAME--and was told (that's the nice way of saying 'lectured') by the owner how my mistake was my mistake, not theirs blah blah blah

You say you're not fully aware of my situation --it's noted in my post--and it was over a stinking $45.00--as I pointed out ,it was the principle, not the 45.00

I am not saying that they are dishonest --I just offered an opinion that it's a lousy business practice --and perhaps a tad rude--that when a customer drops $10-$20,000 (I don't recall the exact amount) it shouldn't be a big deal to take back a 45.00 card bought by mistake.

Just to be clear... you're mad at them because they wouldn't fix a small ($45) mistake that you made?

If you can spend $10,000-$20,000 in an auction (and I believe you) then why even be bothered asking them to fix your mistake?

Seems like you're blowing it up to be a big thing, and in the process, missed the opportunity to buy in subsequent auctions.

so let's say you buy A LOT from one seller on ebay and then you see that one of the 80 cards you bought(or 50 or whatever) you already had. Are you telling me that if you said to the seller that you screwed up on one of the cards , he wouldn't "take it back". I realize it was my mistake but I'll bet you that if someone bought $10,000-$20,000 from YOU on the B/S/T you wouldn't tell them that it was their mistake and they have to live with it....and if you say you would , I don't believe you and neither would anyone else on this site.

I'm saying that if I made a $45 mistake, I wouldn't bother asking them to eat my problem. Flip the damn card on Ebay and quit bitching about it years later!
