Count me among those who toiled to build this model back in the sixties...

I always found it cool that the Babe signed right handed but everything else was left handed.

All lefties in those days were forced at school to write with their right hands.
Gehrig wrote right-handed as well.

I like that Big Bum so much, he's on my business card

Never knew that, thanks for the history lesson.

I did some further research on the Ruth/Cochrane photo. It has a date of July 14, 1934 on the back. On that date Babe Ruth hit home run number 700 off of Tommy Bridges as the Yankees defeated the Detroit tigers.

This is a pretty rare Ruth figural wall-plaque. Not in pristine condition but its made of really brittle chalkware. Hard to believe that it survived in one piece.

Babe's 700th.

Well I'd say that our photos would present wonderful together...

Cool photos, Big Red and King Jimmy. According to an on-line inflation adjustment calculator I found, that $20 would be worth an un-Bondsian $318.39 now. But for young Leonard Beals the memory, and the photo, had to have been priceless.

Jimmy,

I love that Ruth HR#700 photo. I have never seen that image before.

How much do vintage first generation Ruth photos usually sell for? I really don't know much about them. I picked up my Ruth photo for $87 and was curious if that was a good price.

Thanks,
Phil

He looks pretty damn good considering he's 115 years old!

DaveH 02-27-2010 02:31 PM

The Babe and I are both born on the same 6th of February. Of course he's 55 years older than me. Too bad I couldn't swing a bat as well as he. Ronald Reagan was also born on the 6th.
