Worst Ballplayer Names?

Some time ago we had a thread about the best player names/nicknames. Might be fun to go the other way: worst or most unfortunate names. This came to mind after looking through Jim's fabulous album of T210s and seeing Mr. Clunk.

So...my nomination for all-time most unfortunate name is
.
.
.
Clyde Kluttz (though he actually had a .980 FA as a catcher)

Bill

Certainly not pre-war, but J.J. Putz comes to mind.

JP 02-05-2010 07:31 AM

Rusty Kuntz?

Robextend 02-05-2010 08:05 AM

JP, you stole my thunder...I don't know how it gets worse than Rusty Kuntz.

The Mets 3rd base coach last year had a really odd name - Razor Shines.

Dick Pole of the early 1960s Red Sox

Dick Felt of the early 1960s Boston Patriots

Dick Trickle of Nascar fame

I mean what were their parents thinking?

Robextend 02-05-2010 08:18 AM

On the other hand, I think Urban Shocker is one of the best names of all time!

Isn't there a player in the Obak set named Krapp?

My favorite Olympic name - Gurd Bonk (a weightlifter).

Eli Grba is another favorite.

Gotta believe Brian Asselstine ended up in a playground scrap or two when he was a kid.

Steve D 02-05-2010 12:48 PM

Peter LaCock (whose father was Peter Marshall, of Hollywood Squares fame).

One of my favorites has always been Bob Walk (not the best name for a pitcher).

Steve

And Pete LaCock's aunt, ie Peter Marshall's sister, was the easy on the eyes actress Joanne Dru. She was in "Red River," among other films.

Might as well go ahead and lock the thread. We have our winner.

thekingofclout 02-06-2010 09:45 AM

Here's a couple that haven't been mentioned yet...

Dick Butkus. Think his name may have anything to do with how he punished people?

And from an active player... Milton Bradley. Think he took some heat from his classmates with a name like that? That also might be the source of his nasty disposition.

BTW... Nice thread.
