Is there a list of HOFers who did not have cards issued during their playing years?
I'm sure most of the Negro Leaguers didn't have cards issued during their playing years but I think most of the MLBers did.
Does anyone have a definative list? |
If you go to OldCardboard (link above), in the data section (button on left) Phil has a pictoral of all HOFer's rookie cards. You can decide what you consider a card. As an example, Cool Papa Bell only has a postcard from his playing days, so you can decide if that qualifies. I do not think there is any HOFer that doesn't have something representing them, but some you likely will not consider a "card."

As you'll see on Old Cardboard, quite a few Negro Leaguers do have legitimate cards from their playing days that everyone would categorize as a card. They're mostly from Cuba and Puerto Rico. But there are a few who appear to have had nothing. I don't think there's anything of Ben Taylor or Louis Santop, for example.
Besides the Negro Leaguers, the only other players who arguably don't have cards are some of the pioneers, like George Wright and Candy Cummings. Wright has cabinets and CDVs. Cummings has maybe a tintype or something like that. If you move into executives and umpires, quite a few have nothing. |
Thanks, I'll check out the Old Cardboard link.
