Cubbies or Chi-Sox... Let's see what you have.
Although I was born there, my family moved to LA when I was five, back in 1963. I guess what I'm trying to say is, actually, I'm a little ashamed to say... I don't have much at all of Cubs/Sox memorabilia. But I would sure love to see what you guys have! 1932 World Series Game 3 Wrigley Field General View - Ruth "Called Shot" Game TYPE I Photograph & Ticket Stub. Attachment 12917Attachment 12918 |
One of my favorite topics!!! We have discussed it before and all agree the Cubbies are at least in the top three for vintage memorabilia. There are soo many pieces I hope to add over time. Great post.

Mike H - are those Bears doing what I think they're doing on the Burgundy Pennant? (Very naughty... bet that one was a favorite of the Bleacher Bums back in the day!) Here are some of mine... I'll try to post some new/fresh stuff later... |

Chicago
Beautiful stuff guys. Don't really have any Cubs or Whitesox stuff in my collection right now, but I do have something sort of related. It is this gold Chicago Athletic Association medal. The Chicago Athletic Association was founded in 1890 (one of the founding members was AG Spalding), and CAA member William Wrigley later adopted this C logo for the Cubs. The medal is marked on back Dieges and Clust, and with a name, that I have never been able to make out for certain (I suck at this old english lettering) - perhaps Lemke?

No wonder I was feeling a little ashamed...
I had no idea how many great Cub pieces were out there! And to think, basically my only piece isn't really a Cub piece... it's a Babe Ruth piece!
I'm gonna have to get myself one of those beautiful pennants that it seems everyone has except ME! Keep it up guys, terrific post from the word GO. |

I'm a Yankees fan but I'm still rooting for the poor Cubbies (as long as they aren't facing my guys in the Series). It's a shame this is the last one you've got:

Chicago Cubs?? Oversize Pennant
1 Attachment(s)
I think I have seen this pennant before in an old photo, possibly on the old forum. I have searched this forum for the photo without any luck. If my memory is correct, the photo shows a fan outside the Cubs ballpark standing with the pennant draped over the shoulder. If anyone has this photo or can share any info about the pennant it would be much appreciated. Is this possibly one of a kind? I have never seen this version before. Can this be attributed to the Cubs? Many of the Cubs pennants from the period are found with this red/maroon color. I am familiar with the blue White Sox version that Mark (Perezfan) was kind enough to share.

I do strongly believe it's a Cubs Pennant (and the direct counterpart to the White Sox Version I posted above). Most of the Cubs Pennants from the teens were maroon/burgundy/deep red, for whatever reason. Check out those posted by Mike H and myself, as well as the Hunt/Mastro/Lelands/REA archives.
It's an extremely rare and desirable pennant, and I would bet that the number of surviving examples can be counted on the fingers of one hand. To call it one-of-a-kind would be a stretch, but it's not that far off. Wonderful pennant... if you ever think about selling/trading, please let me know, as it would be a wonderful companion to my White Sox counterpart. Conversely, if you are interested in my White Sox Pennant (to match yours) feel free to contact me. These two probably belong together.... thanks for posting it! |

Just picked this one up, and looking for some companion display pieces! Harry Steinfeldt's 1909 road jersey, obtained from a Chicago area family who had the jersey for over 100 years. The "find" of a lifetime for a Die-Hard Cubs fan like me.

Stunned silence is all I can muster.......Congratulations

Breathtaking, Rob....
I can't think of anything to say that would do justice to that magnificent Jersey. So I am at a loss for words as well.... |
Instant museum piece. Truly effwordin' amazing!

One of the best things ever posted here Rob. Sincere congratulations.

Rob...
Here's a possible companion display piece for your Jersey. It is pretty stunning and is so big, it was a real challenge to photograph. Since the final year listed on the photo is 1908, I believe this is a 1909 vintage Cubs piece (same year as your Steinfeldt Flannel). Of the five known "Yard of the National Game" variations, this one is perhaps the most imposing (with two team panoramas contained within!) I was not looking to sell/trade, but perhaps it fits your needs better than mine right now. Please just drop me an email if you have any potential interest in a sale/trade. Congrats again! Mark ps. The whiteness on the left side is just reflective glare (and is not on the photo) |

cubs jersey
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen not in person. :)
Wow...all I can say....makes we want to eat a whole tub of ice cream. |
Thank you for all your kind words. As a longtime Cubs "game used" collector, this piece blew me away when the guy first showed it to me. Never in a million years did I think I'd ever own anything of this significance. Mark, if you get a chance, drop me a note...that's one cool piece! Thanks again for all the feedback...I really enjoy sharing this stuff with those who appreciate it as much as I do.
Best, Rob authenticgamers@aol.com |

You should be able to date it from the players present. Any board members want to venture a guess at value of Rob's jersey? Rob could probably charge people $200 each just to try it on. Now I want to see if I can find a photo of Steinfeldt wearing it. |
I sell street sweepers and have this hanging in my office.

1930 was of course Hack's monster season. A season that basically carried him into the Hall. Here is a 1930 Wilson TYPE 1 by the legendary Charles Conlon... Attachment 30065Attachment 30066 |

I'm an avid reader of this memorabilia board, but somehow I missed this thread when it was originally posted. I'm so glad Jimmy bumped it today, because that Steinfeldt jersey is absolutely amazing -- definitely the best piece ever posted here.
I'm going to add a group of eight Chicago HOF game bats -- Billy Herman, Luke Appling, Kiki Cuyler, Gabby Hartnett, Al Lopez, Luis Aparicio, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg( rookie bat from his Philly days), and Fergie Jenkins Greg http://www.baseballbasement.com |

Hi Andrew,
That's a great Sandberg bat -- what became of it? The one in my photo is from 1979 when Sandberg played for Spartanburg in the Phillies organization. Greg http://www.baseballbasement.com |
I have some photos of the Sandberg bat and will have to dig them up.
I had the bat for a number of years and ran into a situation where I needed a few bucks and sold it to Dave Bushing for what I thought was a nice little sum. I Really wish I had that bat back The back story was the Cubs batboys would sell broken gamers after the games back then for anywhere from 5 to 25 bucks depending on the player. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I just started collecting and would take anyone I could afford from the bat boys. Many times I would walk out of the park with 3-4 bats. I still remember the day I got the Sandberg because the batboy said he had a rookie bat of the third baseman, did I want it for 5 bucks. I said why not and got the Sandberg bat for a measly 5 bucks. I happened to see Ryno leave the park that day and could have had him sign it but didnt have a Sharpie on me. Little did I know he would become a hall of famer especially the way he started out. The extra back story is that the very next year I started working for the Cubs, met many of the players and got bats directly from them and didnt have to pay the bat boy. I had to stop collecting when I was offered a job in the front office and realized that collecting from the players would probably not go over too well. I Spent 7 years directly out of high school working for the Cubs at Wrigley field. I had a boat load of stuff I collected but have sold off a majority of it since then but I still have the memories and some pictures!! :) |
South Side Jersey

Here's a nice vintage wartime jersey from the South Side. The player was Roy Schalk who played second in 1944 and 1945.
|
Rob- I saw a 1905 McGinnity jersey in person a few years ago but it did not have the look of the Steinfeldt, that is something else!
