2 Attachment(s)
Any input on the value of an original 1903-1911 Detroit BB Club Expense Ledger?
Players salaries, expenses for hotels, trains, meal. World Series expenses, wifes & family expenses for road trips. Some pics? Thanks Joe |
I don't know about value, but that would be an awesome piece if original. Is it yours? If so, do you have pics of other pages? Very fascinating.
|
Wow, that's awsome. Didn't see Cobb listed on there. Did I miss it?
|
It is original. I will post some more pics with Cobb's Salary and the 1st misc payment to him in 1905.

That really is a neat piece - and I have to admit, that's some darn good handwriting!

The Ledger is 10 1/2 x 16, 152 pages, but only 78 pages have information. The others are blank.

Yeah Joe....definitely an awesome piece.
|
value: priceless.

A museum quality piece....very nice and thanks for sharing.

Very nice piece Joe !!
My how salaries rose over ~20 years. Here is what the 1887 Wolverines came in at: <b>Manager</b> Bill Watkins => $3,000 <b>Catchers</b> Charles Bennett => $3,000 Fatty Briody => $1,750 Charlie Ganzel => $2,000 Sy Sutcliffe => ? <b>Pitchers</b> Lady Baldwin => $3,200 Ed Beatin => ? Bill Burke => $2,000 Pete Conway => ? Charlie Getzien => $2,000 Henry Gruber => ? Larry Twitchell => $1,200 (also played LF) Stump Wiedman => $1,750 <b>Fielders</b> Dan Brouthers => $4,000 Fred Dunlap => $4,500 Deacon White => $3,500 Jack Rowe => $3,500 Sam Thompson => $2,200 Ned Hanlon => $2,200 Hardy Richardson => $4,000 Billy Shindle => $1,750 Jimmy Manning => ? Estimating an additional $7,000 for the five missing players and the team's total comes in at ~$55.5k. This information may seem a bit O/T but Joe might find it interesting. So Joe, how and when did you acquire such a neat piece? |
that is a very cool piece of memorabilia
thanks for sharing |
Amazing piece. Can't wait to hear more about it's origin and discovery.
|
Wow. Simply amazing.
As a quasi-accountant (ok, I'm a tax lawyer--the definition of which is a person who has the personality of an accountant, but doesn't like to work with numbers :) ), it's an extremely wonderful piece. Max |
Great piece of history, will it be scanned in whole and placed somewhere where we can view it?
I'd love to read through it, and piece together what the times were like... |

It will take quite awhile to scan correctly, I will try to do this in the future.
What happpened, was I had an ad in SCD looking for Detroit Tiger items around 1991 or 1992 and I received a list of items from the person who read the ad had the ledger. I bought everything including some early programs, photos, Briggs Stadium original drawings of the Stadium renovations in 1930's. A few other misc items. I think his father got the items when the Stadium was being renovated in the 1970's? Joe |
