Help Identify Players in Photo

1 Attachment(s)
Ok experts, I need some help identifying the players in this photo. It was taken during an All Star game.

The only player that I can positively identify is the third player, Ted Williams. The others look familiar but I want to be be 100% sure.

Thanks.

Second from left is Johnny Mize, I believe.

Thanks Barry. That was who I suspected. The others still baffle me.

The other two look really familiar but I am not placing them.

You could probably read the name on the bat at far right, his signature model is clearly visible. It might be a teammates bat but it is likely his bat he is using and his signature is facing the camera.

I'm pretty sure that is Walker Cooper on the far right, I'll look into the Cubs player and get back with you. Cooper has a very distinct jaw line.

Picture looks like the AS Game of 1947 at Wrigley Field . The Cub player is either Phil Cavarretto or Andy Pakfo ( I think Phil), Next is Mize and then Williams. The only other Giants players that year were: Walker Cooper and Willard Marshall.
My best guess is :Cavarretto,Mize,Williams and Cooper.

It's a White Sox player, not a Cubs player. It is neither Pafko nor Cavarretta.

Abravefan11 01-11-2010 10:50 AM

It's Rudy York I believe.

barrysloate 01-11-2010 10:55 AM

It's definitely Rudy York. Good call.

Mark, I just quickly looked at the jersey, if it is a White Sox player it sure looks like Rudy York (I just didn't remember York ever playing in Chicago)

Good call Tim.

Thanks to all for helping me solve this one. Special thanks to Tim.

It is the 1947 All Star Game.

Rudy York, Johnny Mize, Ted Williams, Walter Cooper

I did look at the autograph on the bat and it was Cooper. So that verifies it was Cooper.

Hard to miss Mize's pumpkin head. He must have worn a size 8 or 9 hat.

I agree on Walker Cooper being the player on the right. I just compared his image here, with several of his baseball cards, and it is a match, especially with his 1956 Topps card.
