It's Official!!!! PSA Sets a Record

Here is the link and the pics are self explanitory. Absolutly NO EXCUSES this time for their constant over sight. Creases, staining, and paperloss but still gets a 5.

Get that grader's name! Unreal, I never get graders who are so blind. If I had submitted that card, it comes back PSA 1.

Quoted from the seller's page "Since this card is Professionally Graded it needs no explanation."

Well, there you have it...

barrysloate 01-10-2010 05:00 AM

That's a solid 2!

martin neal 01-10-2010 05:48 AM

I think the grader spent most of the 5 seconds on the front of the card.

Irwin Fletcher 01-10-2010 06:01 AM

That's about how much time PSA usually spends, right?

Wow - it's incredible that they gave that a 5!

egbeachley 01-10-2010 07:05 AM

Paper loss on front, scuffed, off center, and dirty.

I will say it first. BUY THE CARD NOT THE HOLDER!!! Thing is you should not have to worry about this. Thats what you pay these guys/gals for. Problem is I would like to know how they normally bring higher prices than SGC. Is there more PSA collectors thus creating a larger market with more buyers:confused:

The PSA registry drives a lot. That said I've seen a number of SGC graded cards that were clearly overgraded as well. You grade as many cards as both outfits do and some are going to slip through. As you said buy the card not the holder.

Wait, but I thought that a minimum of three PSA graders examine each card under a loupe, and sign off on the final grade? :)

They did have 3, Stevie Wonder, Ronnie Milsap & Ray Charles (it must have been a promotional, "take an entertainer to work day")

No disrespect to these talented entertainers or to their disablity is being made, but the grader who signed off on that was either blind or impaired.

PSA Gaining Over SGC

It is my perception that PSA has been gaining business over SGC. They do make mistakes; SGC makes mistakes. Because of a greater volume they make more mistakes. SGC rules in the Old Judge/Pre WW1 era; PSA with the rest. PSA brings higher prices with the rest, in general. Don't think that it will change.

chaddurbin 01-10-2010 11:03 AM

are we really bashing psa for their incompetence...again? what is this 2006? i see 4-5 overgraded cards every day (from all grading co.). buy the card not the holder is not some profound 2010 statement. all we need now is for someone to show a scan of a t206 honus wagner label with a heine wagner card so the thread can jump the shark...

RichR 01-10-2010 11:13 AM

Well said Chaddurbin.

Those sure are nasty there Jerry. I would say it happens to every grading company. Some alot more than others.

lharri3600 01-11-2010 09:05 AM

no way

I'm not a psa basher, but come on!! As far as 3 graders go, if we believe that, i have plenty of ocean front property in iowa.

tbob 01-11-2010 01:35 PM

If I had the inclination or the time I could post some "flip side of the coin" scans of PSA and SGC pre-war cards that are exmt fronts and tiny bit of paper loss on the back which ended up PSA 1s and SGC 10s. It makes you shake your head......

Bob, one of the major reasons that GAI's rep went down the crapper was giving elevated grades to cards with (NM) fronts with paper loss on the reverse.
