Show your Pre-1940 Pro basketball items
Early basketball stuff is tough to find. Please show your pre-1940 basketball programs, equipment, photos, broadsides, tickets, etc. Once I figure this out I will post some pictures, too.
Thanks, Andy Sandler alwysyakn@aol.com |

Before someone knocks this as off-topic, I'll put up a couple items. I collect old sports letters, so that's all I have to show. These letters are probably better classed as semi-pro rather than professional.
1933 Denver Piggly Wiggly - a dominant AAU team that eventually evolved into the Denver Nuggets Attachment 12225 circa 1920 Belcur basketball team - I don't know anything about this team. The letterhead is blank. Attachment 12226 1901/02 St. Clair Athletic Club - According to web reports, this team was fantastic. The player with the mustache is John Titus, who played baseball with the Phillies. Attachment 12227 |

Another interesting bit of info on the dominoes program is that one of the "peden brothers" that sponsored it was likely William "Torchy" Peden, one of the best pro cyclists of the 30's.
http://www.6dayracing.ca/riders/peden/peden-bio.html I collect cycling memorabilia, so the name stood out. steve |
Some of my old basketball stuff
I think they should have an area on here (if they want) of any other sports Memorabilia besides baseball (please).

Basketball items
I know its not pro and not pre 40 but Its a nice item that I dont get to post much. Its a letter signed by Abe Saperstein all about the Harlem globetrotters. The letter was sent to another famous person (who I knew very well) John Cullen Murphy. John was an Illustrator for Sport,Sports Illustrated, Colliers, and many other Mags. back in the 40s -50s. He is most famous for being the Illustrator for Big Ben Bolt And Prince Valliant for many years. Just thought it was an intresting letter.

Andy,
I'm really glad you started this thread on here. It has been tried on the Basketball card forum before, but it never got many views/posts. I am a long time vintage basketball memorabilia collector. I had been collecting cards, too, but have concentrated on vintage memorabilia more & more over the years. Some years ago, I started writing to former pro (& some college) basketball players, concentrating on the early years of basketball. I have received some very interesting letters & correspondences. I will post some pictures also once I get scans. Alan |

On the memorabilia side, I don't think anyone ever gets fussed if it's another sport or even post-war. Max |

Hi-
I recently acquired the book scanned below and while it is from 1943, and I am guessing it is either college or high school, I thought it was pretty cool and figured I would share it anyway. The best part of it to me is that every page has play diagrams, notes, and player totals (sorry for the odd tint on the page scanned. I need a new scanner). Yours in collecting, Alan Elefson aelefson@hotmail.com |

One of your pictures shows a stitched-cover basketball. When were those used? |
Hi
That's one of my OK MFG Co Volleyballs - not a basketball - it is from the 1940's. |
Here's a few items that may be of interest.
