Help wanted to ID this Cobb card.

Recently purchased this card and would like some help with card type and date. It is 2" x 3 1/4" and has a plain back. Thanks.
|
Is that the same image that appears on the Cobb Sporting News Postcard c1913?
|
nice image...does it have a postcard back? I have never seen anything like it and I'd be skeptical of its authenticity.
oops...sorry I missed the part about it having a blank back... |
resembles
It resembles those Tip Top cards that H and S just sold for a ton of money...otherwise not familiar and agreed on always being a bit skeptical....
|
The bottom right is starting to say The Sporting News just like on their postcard, so this is a differently cropped version of that. Maybe someone took that postcard and cropped it a bit and turned it into a card? Other then that I have no idea

Dave:
Is it trimmed or is the card going beyond the scan's visibility? |
It is almost the exact image of the 1914 Sporting News Postcard. In fact, you can see the beginning of the words "The Sporting News" to the right of the "D" on Ty's chest. Nice card if it is authentic.
|
It's not trimmed, I just did a bad job of cropping it. I agree it's the Sporting News image except smaller. The back is plain but with several stains.
|
looks fake to me, from the scan it looks artificially aged and the image is not very crisp.
|
Just my two cents--it could be a photocopy/shop job homemade card.
I would find it strange that some other "official" period entity would issue this card with "the Sporting News" identifier anywhere on the card. It just looks like that someone scanned the Sporting news card, changed the color, shrunk the image, did some other creative editing and voila. |
It doesn't look real to me, but I am basing my opinion on a scan. Never the best way to authenticate.
