Best investment...
Consider the demand for a card - have learned this is quite important. There may be less populous cards, but the high demand cards, are, well, in high demand. Major T206 and well centered upper tier HOF'ers - bingo.

However, do not invest in baseball cards. Invest in an education, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, a home, real estate... if you're young enough, buy 8 or 10 acres out somewhere, plant hardwood trees (cherry, walnut), tend to them for the first few years, then wait. 30 years later, or so, you will have one fine return on that investment. Don't co-mingle hobbies with investments. |
I'm not sure there is a clear cut answer to your question. It would be more like what is the best price you can get on a certain card. I don't know that anything is going to skyrocket like items Frank mentioned, stocks, real estate, ect. But if you make a list of 10-25 high demand cards and get one of them for a great price you will atleast not lose money. The really high demand cards seem to be T206 and Mickey Mantle, but everyone seems to have a certain cap on what they will pay. The other stuff that goes for big money is so rare that you either have had it for years or pay a fortune for it to start with. Unless you get lucky and happen upon a find, or someone with a nice collection who needs to sell low asap for cash, finding a card to invest is just a crapshoot.

I'd go with names like Ruth, Cobb, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Mantle, and Jackie Robinson during the period 1909 - 1952.

low-grade Magie
I would go with a low-grade Magie (error). Would probably be looking closer to the 5K mark though; very easily even higher. Could never go wrong with a Magie!
