Who am I?

This sure looks like Ted Williams. But I'd be real surprised if he appeared on the cover of Life Magazine while still in the PCL. And the lettering on his jersey looks suspiciously like "Brooklyn". So who is this?

It's Brooklyn Dodger John Thomas Winsett.

Does anyone besides me think his legs look completely distorted?

Rich Klein 12-08-2009 08:29 PM

Here is the wiki on him

Interesting to note; that he is called rubber legged on this. Apparently he was quite elastic

Thanks everyone. Am I the only one who thinks this guy looks a lot like Williams?

FrankWakefield 12-08-2009 10:30 PM

No, sir. I thought it was Ted with an initial glance. But if you look at him it gradually becomes obvious that he isn't.

They don't really stage photos like that these days...

Why do I feel like throwing my copy of Pretzel Logic on the old turntable?

Actually it looks a little more like a young Yaz than Williams to me.

barrysloate 12-09-2009 02:49 PM

Jodi- I had to google Pretzel Logic...at least now I know the reference was to Steely Dan.:o

BillyCoxDodgers3B 12-09-2009 03:32 PM

OK, if you of all people didn't get the reference, the joke has settled, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench like so many others before it, right next to the tree that fell in the forest that nobody heard.

These guys started out in Brooklyn for crying out loud!:) And they're huge jazz enthusiasts to boot!

As to Winsett, if I recall, his whereabouts were unknown for a short time before his death. I wrote him an autograph request several years after his passing, as we had no idea he was even gone.

barrysloate 12-09-2009 03:35 PM

Okay, make fun of a guy just because he lives in Brooklyn...I do like Steely Dan, but I never bought one of their albums. You can't have em' all.

I guess the Ted Williams debate is settled...

Lovely Day...

For the record, this seller is a pretty solid guy. I emailed him this morning and he cancelled this auction almost immediately.
