Randall,
I emailed the person as soon as they came on and told him they were fake. The size is wrong 1 3/4 vs real 1 1/4 and the back paper is wrong. |
I would like to think they are real, but they are just to nice.

He could have soaked em in tea for a few minutes. Scammers can be such slackers at times.

Pinbacks are Fake
After much research and taking a very long look at the pictures. These pins are most definitely fake. As I stated before the size is wrong for the issue. The correct size is 1 1/4 inch. The real ones have no black edging going around the curl of the pin. And last the words The whitehead and hoag co. Newark N.J. are printed very small around the lower section of the pin on the real ones.

Well, to my friend who saw them and I, the BACKS should be the dead giveway. Hopefully the guy will state they may be reproductions, or some may read this, and retract bids.

nice catch
Nice catch guys. I bookmarked them before I saw this thread this morning:D. The seller has some other high end stuff so my guess is that unless he puts something in the descriptions, folks that don't read this board, are going to be out quite a bit of money...

Thanks Leon,
Here is a little more info taken from the Hake Steckler Book. I guess you can make up your own mind:D:D |
Not sure I can agree, with certainty, that they are not real.
While not purporting to be a pin expert I question why, if in fact they are forgeries, the size is different and the paper insert is in a completely different style. Seems to me that a sophisticated forger, having duplicated the obverse to perfection, would have given attention to those discrepancies. |

Hi Steve,

Fake pins
The pins have been taken down .As a follow up My very good friend Rob Lifson sent me an email confirming what I thought from the start the pin scans were taken from Robs advertising post cards and copied right down to all the black marks and other small marks. Rob made some calls and in a flash they were removed! Thanks Rob always a pleasure! Al
