Highest Graded Coupon type 1 (or T206 Coupon)

While I only have a prized few of type I Coupons (9 to be exact) the highest graded I own is an SGC 40 Huggins--picked up in Sloate Auctions a couple of years ago (Hi Barry!). Just wondering, given that these are highly condition sensitive, what's the highest graded any of you guys own or know of?

Hi Darren- wish I remembered it.

ullmandds 10-28-2009 09:34 AM

I have a few...but my best is:

I have an sgc 50...reagan.

I think I got mine from Barry, too!!! Not too long ago on ebay...maybe last year?

cfc1909 10-28-2009 10:04 AM

the highest I own is an SGC 30 and the highest I know of is SGC 50. I own about 10 also.

Now the Reagan I remember, because he was a Southern leaguer.:)

There is also an SGC 50 Cobb. It sold in a Mastro auction in 2007.

I think a SGC50/PSA 4 is the highest graded; at one point I had 15, most in fair to good but my highest was a PSA 4MK Breitenstein. They were/are hard to find...but there was 5 or 6 listed on eBay a couple weeks ago with back damage.

type I's

those on ebay sold pretty cheap...but they were gnarly!

SGC shows 120 graded on their pop report. 5 come in at SGC 50. None higher.

PSA only shows 23 graded with 6 coming in at PSA 4. None higher.

(I suspect that PSA has actually graded more than that, but perhaps classified them as something else. Otherwise that number seems low.)

barrysloate 10-28-2009 01:11 PM

It's astonishing that there has never been even one graded Excellent.

ullmandds 10-28-2009 01:15 PM

i wouldn't think an sgc 50 would be high grade enough...for some ultra high grade type collectors...hmm? There must be nicer ones in private collections out there somewhere!

any of the thin stocked series are this way

I think any of the thin stocked series ie... T216-3, T216 Virginia Extra, T213-1 are all in the same boat. I consider anything above a 1.5 to be fairly high grade. Anything above a 2.5 should be considered very high grade imo.....Even nice 2's are difficult to come by.

Coupon series

Twelve years ago, I sold all my COUPON cards, except these 3 for my type set. Most were nicer than these three.....and, I regret selling them.

Anyhow, I agree that 1910 COUPON cards are never seen in Ex condition. That said, I think my Type 3 Chase shown here might get an SGC 60.

Ted- type 3's can be found in high grade, as they were made using much higher quality paper stock than the type 1's. I know I have had type 3's graded at least SGC 84.

I have one raw example that would fall into the fair-good range.

Hi,

I've had 14 or 15 different type 1 coupons over the years with the highest being PSA 4. I also had a nice SGC 40 Beals Becker (I believe) which was one of the nicer examples I've seen. Leon might have that one now?

Most were poor to fair due to the card's thickness. Love em!

It's interesting that the PSA Registry doesn't have any Type I sets listed.

Type 1's stop at Vg-Ex condition (SGC&PSA)... I agree, that there might be a few raw ones that might eventually be in higher grade, but for now the vg-ex Type 1 is Top Dog... (Sean, it has been awhile, but Thanks again... Breit fits with my Nashville theme as he played in siginifcant games against the Vols back in the day... Including the 1908 "Greatest Game Ever played" South Assoc. Championship)
