Question About This 1899 Spalding Ad
Hello,
I don't know a thing about these early ad pieces. It's matted but at least 9" x 14" and multi color. Is it most likely cut from a publication or were they issued as ad broadsides? Also, any idea who the batter and catcher may be or just generic players? Also, what is the approx. value of something like this? I tilted the picture to eliminate the reflections... Thanks for any info. -Andy |
It is from a magazine, I think American Boy.
Value is about $25-30, maybe more depending on who finds it interesting as it is pretty graphic. I don't think that players are known professionals. Scott |
Hello Andy - the ad is from 1899 and came out of Youths Companion magazine. Perhaps however, the ad was run in several different magazines. My belief is that the ad is worth $50 unframed. If you are able to lift the mat up a bit right above the text - Spalding - you will see both the date and the name of the magzine. Nice peice......
