The "centurions" of BB....can you name them ?
 

Can we name all the living (or deceased) Major League BB players that attained the age of 100+ years ?

I'll start with Chester Cornelius "Red" Hoff who passed away on Sept. 17, 1998 at the grand old age of 107.

TRIVIA......
Chet was a southpaw pitcher for the NY Highlanders from 1911-13. He struck out the 1st batter that faced him....

I think he made it and just passed recently?

Hoff was the oldest major leaguer by far...no other player has lived past 101. And he was a "centenarian."

I believe Tony Malinosky is now the oldest living major leaguer at 100. There was a Negro League player named Si Simmons who I think attained the grand old age of 111.

You say "centenarian"......and, I said "centurion". I deliberately chose that word because I was 99% sure that you would chime in.

As you know both words are derived from the Latin "centaria"....meaning 100. A centurion commanded a 100 soldiers in the Roman
era.
And, anyone who lives to 100+ has taken command of his years :).

You are correct, Chet Hoff struck out Ty Cobb......the very 1st batter to face Hoff in the big leagues.

Emig's fate was not learned until more than 25 years after his demise. His story seems to be very convoluted, but I'm working on it. I have to complete both his story and my collection!
