EBAY comes to it's senses

It looks like Ebay has decided to put some catagories back in the baseball card
listings. It now lets you select which era:
Modern (1981 - present)
Post-WW2 (1942 - 1980)
Pre-WW2 (pre 1942)

They must have felt the pressure.

Some of my saved searches used to turn up a few cards on occasion, and from the era in which I was interested. The last few days all of this modern stuff has appeared in the results, too. And instead of sorting through all of them, I've just deleted the email about them. No doubt other potential buyers were doing the same.

So instead of completely having their craniums in their rectums, they've repositioned themselves slightly so they can peek out.

Since those 3 categories never exisited before, the hundred thousand
or so listed auctions, fixed price or eBay store items will not have these
3 categories affixed to the lots. Unless eBay automatically will do this.

On newly listed lots, sellers can affix the new category, but the gazillion
past lots may be stuck as is, unless sellers rechange each & every lot they listed.

I don't understand why they feel the need to constantly mess with things.

You have to give credit to those eBay guru's. They sure know what they are doing. I'm sure in due time they will separate the categories further. Perhaps something, like Graded and Non Graded categories. Maybe even by decade...1900-09, 1910-19, 1920-29, etc, etc. These guys are sharper then the cards in Bruce's closet.

Lovely Day...

You mean the Bruces' closet, right?

Or is it the Bruces' closets?

At least they aren't in the beanie baby category!! This new step is a step back in the right direction but I feel they will keep making these smrt (sic) decisions....They are too big and have too many idiots making decisions that they know nothing, or very little, about....just my opinion....

I like the new three categories better than the old system. I thought they had too many categories before.

e bay fix???

As of right now, I do not see the category changes implemented in the listing process thru my e bay so it is only a search option. Either way, this is a good sign that they may have felt some pressure but I do not see current or future listing w/ this category thru sell similar item.. Hopefully they blinked!

I just tried to see how you select the "era" if you're trying to sell a card. It looks like you don't. It's automatically assigned based on year, as far as I can tell.

That would be fine except that "year" is still an optional category. This means that many cards will be still listed with an "unspecified" year and therefore an "unspecified" era.

I still don't get why ebay has tried to make it more difficult to find what you're looking for. With all of the work-around strategies people have come up with, it might not be as horrible as we first thought. But it's still stupid and will lead to fewer buyers and sellers coming together.
