Doc Powers Day 1910
purchased this fantastic piece 15-20 years ago (my apologies for the poor-quality images below but the digital camera took a crap and I instead had to scan the item).
5"x8" silverplated presentational loving cup made by Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia. on front (below the Philadelphia Athletics pennant): "Doc" Powers Day - Shibe Park - June 30th, 1910 back of cup is inscribed "Encircling The Bases - Second - James P. Austin - Time: 14 3/5 Seconds" Note: there was also a "Doc Powers Day" postcard issued announcing this event - I've only seen it one time over the years, and have never had the good fortune to own one, but it would be a fantastic companion piece to go with this cup. a link with details of the event (from the book "Harry Hooper: An American Baseball Life" By Paul J. Zingg) - including mention of the loving cups - can be found here: http://books.google.com/books?id=DcT...201910&f=false |

Thanks for showing that...I wondered to myself just yesterday when Steve M. showed a postcard from the event if any of the trophies were out there anywhere. Very nice.
