A very modest home considering the celebrity he was.
Nowadays high profile athletes & entertainers have mansions
and the Gehrig home would be like their guard shack

my buddy lives a few blocks from Gehrig's house in Riverdale...it is a modest home, but very peaceful and in a secluded area.

lous home was built in 1929 by dwight james baum, a distant relative to l. frank baum, the author 0f "the wizard of oz". dwight baum built 140 homes in riverdale. the gehrig home was built on top of a huge boulder. the west side of the house was several feet lower than the east. the dining room to the living required 3 steps, on the 2nd floor the master bedroom to the others were 3 more steps, there were 25 from the mailbox to the front door. add in all the other steps like first floor to the second and you had a house that was the worst pick for lou to live in when this disease hit. a real shame for the poor guy.

Sounds about right for what I know about Gehrig.
