The Ruth/Stengel ball revisited
I received better photos of the ball and thought I would post them for opinions. I am also attaching scans of the letter I received from the owner and newspaper clippings proving he was at the park with Ruth.
If you would be so kind please post opinions on the Ruth or any other auto on the ball. I appreciate any and all information you can provide and thank those who have already contributed in the previous thread. My best, Bryan http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0955_2.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0944_2.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...y/IMG_0952.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...09071600PM.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...09071710PM.jpg |
Looks pretty bad to me.

the letter looks authentically written and the article looks like it was cut from a newspaper but the autographs are completely fake.

The Stengel looks better than the Ruth, but still not good. There's no way IMO that is Babe's autograph. It looks more like 40s versions of Mrs Ruth that Ive seen.

Maybe we have a sandlot scenario where the original ball got lost or the signatures got completely obliterated and someone in the 1950's innocently replaced it with the ball pictured now. I bought a lot of 29 signed baseballs once from a coaches estate and he enhanced some of the signatures himself when they started to fade. No mal-intent by him, there was just no value placed on the signatures at the time and he wanted to be able to see them again.

Means nothing, but it's interesting to me how the letter writer writes the name Babe Ruth.

Yeah, looking at it, pretty similar indeed.
