Way OT but I felt compelled to share

This works. Yep. It does.
(Leon I know this is out there so feel free to delete-the accountant in me made me do it plus I thught it might lighten things up a little :-) )

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

Don't tell me your age; you'd probably lie anyway-but the Hershey Man will know!

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read .
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1759 ...
If you haven't, add 1758.

6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2009) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

Edited to say I can't follow directions. It's been with me since 3rd grade! 739 is dead on!

jmk59 08-17-2009 06:36 PM

Cool. It will never work again with 1759/1758, but will work next year with 1760/1759.

Algebraically, the process (where x is the number of days you pick in #1):

(2x + 5)50 + 1759 - Year/Birth =

100x + 250 + 1759 - Year/Birth =

100x + 2009 - Year/Birth.

So the 100x will always make the first digit the number of days you picked, and since this is 2009, the "2009 - Year/Birth" will always give age.

You could also say to add 8 instead of 5 and then use 1609 instead of 1759 and get the same outcome for the same reasons.

Just me being geeky. :-)

Bamacollection,

Buy a new calculator.

7 x 2 = 14
14 + 5 = 19
19 x 50 = 950
950 + 1759 = 2709
2709 - 1970 = 739

You picked 7.
You are 39.

Joann unfortunately that will not help you on the bar exam. :)

Peter, it may not help Joann on the bar exam but I was quite impressed!!

This calculation was also sent around in email form using golf as the backdrop.
