This item Dick Stuart made by cutting out the Lincoln Newspaper and pinning it to a Lincoln Hotel's stationary after he hit his 49th and 50th homers...he wrote "Fortune" on one ball and "Fame" on the other.

There are no production markings on this large 16 1/2" x 13 1/2" metal serving tray...anyone have any information about it?

Thanks...it measures about 14" x 13". It's wandered around my collection room over the years, but spends most of the time pinned up as a backdrop for other sports memorabilia.

My odds and ends centers around the KC A's of the late 50's and early 60's.
These are in my possession only because I married a KC girl with 3 older Brothers and a Dad who were passionate for this team. I also have pencils, Programs etc. Some cool stuff including the article on the trades between the A's and the Yanks of the late 50's. The running joke was KC was a farm team for the Yankees in those days.

Bravo! One of the highlights of my life was seeing Mickey Mantle knock one over Charley Finley's 40-foot high chain llnk fence in right field onto Brooklyn Avenue. A mule in left field, sheep grazing on the hill in right, a secondhand scoreboard from Braves Field in Boston and a mechanical rabbit delivering new baseballs to the umpires...to a kid like me, it was Disneyland and I loved every minute of it.

Never seen that Butternut piece...some day we'll do a thread on the A's and it may only interest the two of us!

I'm really digging this thread guys. Just fantastic stuff!

Draper & Maynard Co. Account Book
 

Below is an account book of A. F. Burtt, who worked for the Draper and Maynard Company in the 1890s. Burtt keeps track of the production of gloves, mitts, outseems, etc. including the cost and time starting with the year 1890. He also tracks his income from J. F. Draper. What is really cool about this is that A.F. Burtt invented a Catchers Mitt that was patented in 1895. Below, there is a photo of a page in the book that shows Burtt paying $20.00 for the patent on Nov. 9 1895! He also invented a Boxing Glove and Punching Bag... I am guessing there is about 100 pages where Burtt breaks down the individual operations and money for each step--cutting, stitching, welt, trimming, finishing, etc.

Great memories Rick! I never made it to a game at Municipal but old Charley sure knew how to spruce up a game. I also found this KC Paper in my stash from the first KC A's game in 1955. Sorry, could not fit the entire page in my scanner.

While on the subject of KC. I did find this that I forgot I had from the KC Blues 1924 Minor league team. Great thread!

Here's a group shot of the baseball player dolls my mother makes for me...she usually gives one to me on my birthday and one on Christmas...There are 11 in the shot, but I now have 12...just haven't gotten around to taking a new team photo. :)

Thanks guys...Barry, she paints the faces. They are very much a folk art style doll. About 5 or 6 years back I was up at her house and I saw a couple of dolls in this style that she had made...I told her that if she could make a doll like that and slap a baseball uniform on it, it would be perfect...so she did and the rest is history. I'll take an updated shot tonight that includes the Mordecai Peter Centennial "three finger" Brown she made me for my birthday. I still haven't decided on who I want her to make for Christmas.

Do you know the total time it takes to make one of them? I really think they are great.

I see running across the bottom row Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, and Joe Jackson. Or is that Mike Kelly, with Young to his left?

I'm not sure of her total time to make one....I'd have to ask, but I know she doesn't just sit down and make it in a day...she does a bit and comes back to it. It is Mike King Kelly in the gray uniform...and actually I had her make Smokey Joe Wood, but sometimes the face doesn't always come out how she wants it to, so if someone sees Cy Young instead, that's fine. She uses the Hall of Fame's Uniform Database for colors and style. My favorite is the first one she made for me...Old Hoss Radbourne on the top row. I should have asked her to make him 'flipping the bird' :D

I was identifying them by the uniform. It is a little tough doing it by facial features. And while many African-Americans played for the Dodgers, I naturally guessed Jackie.
