SGC Authentic on T206's

Due to a lack of common sense i have begun working on this set. I have picked up a few SGC 10 and SGC 20 cards that have paper loss on the reverse but really nice fronts. I've seen a few cards graded Authentic but not sure what criteria SGC uses for this. Does this mean recolored or otherwise touched up, but not trimmed. I know PSA's standard but not sure about SGC. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Stuart

Means they are real or authentic but something was done to the cards, trimmed, recolored, etc...

It can also mean that they are too small to holder. Unaltered but tiny.

Never knew that they would slab a card as authentic without tampering involved. I thought it would come back as graded??? Anyone else heard of this. I sold a lot about a yr ago with a Groom Tostoli back and it was authentic but small. I figured it was trimmed though.

I didn't think a trimmed card would get graded, even authentic. Thanks for the info.

It would be nice if SGC and PSA would put the reason for it being AUTH graded. How hard would it be for them to say...

Recolored
Rebacked
Trimmed
To small
Bleached
etc...

PSA basically already does it with their qualifier cards.

If a card doesn't meet size requirements, even if the grader isn't sure if it's been trimmed, he will almost always err on the side of caution and grade it Authentic.

I agree with this 100%. This is one of the HUGE issues I have with SGC and PSA. At least SGC will slab a card authentic, PSA has refused to do so on several cards for me in the past.

Ironically Beckett doesn't seem to have a problem with this and does a nice job marking the flip. 10 points to Beckett :-)

Most of the stuff I have had SGC slab as authentic, was stuff I knew was trimmed or strip cards that were short.

Bobby is right on trimmed or colored-- if colored, I can remove the paint--

Stuart Bobby is right on, if the cards are painted, I can remove the paint. Dick Towle "GONE WITH THE STAIN".
